Futurama: Rage Against the Vaccine (2023)
Too late and too soon. To this party
Who wants to reflect on the pandemic already?! The robot made of bones (a completely wasted gag) aside, every joke here swings and misses because they've all been told by late night talk shows 3 years ago.
How did a show that has the limitless playground of a future galaxy manage to make itself feel immediately dated and limited with jokes about topics that exclusively happened in The last couple years?
Zoom was awkward. Yep. That would have been a cute gag video in 2020 .
This has been an issue with much of this season. Bitcoin? COVID? We know! Now please remember what it meant to use your imagination!
Addiction Is Murder (2006)
A Wickedly Straight-faced horror-comedy
A series of great performances make this tale darker and funnier with each turn. The callousness of life is never fully flushed, which allows it to dwell in both dimensions of horror and comedy; to which it is affective in both.
A great example of clever story writing and a testament to committed performances. Delivered in the same time as a TV show, one gets more story and worth than anything HBO has to offer. A Canadian proves once again that the Great White North has a great attatchment to the macabre and the hilarious. Look for the excellent torture scene that beats out Hostel any day for its genuine sense of terror.
