Death Walks (2016)
An instant cult classic
I have just stepped away from a screening of Death Walks, and I have to say for a first time filmmaker and first time actors this movie has cult classic written all over it.
As the film begins we are told it cost nothing to make and I'm telling you now for a no budget movie, this film outsmarts many much higher budget films.
In terms of zombie action, you might be a little disappointed this is not a conventional zombie movie, but that's part of the twist. It has no real special effects either, but it does have excellent performances, wonderful twists, scorching soundtrack and super surprising cameos.
Death Walks has issues, but in the big scheme of things they are minor. I honestly believe that this will be a movie that reinvents the wheel. Its a masterclass in handling low budget, while delivering something we have never seen in a zombie movie. I've seen lots of bad horror movies of late but this one has me excited for the future. Well done to the films makers.
Poseidon (2006)
It sunk
For whatever reason I forgot all about the Poseidon remake until I saw the original 74 movie a few nights ago. So I felt it was time to give it a go.
Poseidon is sunk the second it begins, horrendous CGI ship animation, then there is the script, or rather the lack of it. And somewhere along the lines the rest goes wrong.
Nobody in the film is likable, everyone has a back story nobody cares about, and death treated matter of fact, with no mourning at all, let alone discussion. Someone dies, and there is not even a "oh my god they're dead" moment, its all just terribly bad, and despite the copious amounts of cash spent on the movie, it looks incredibly cheap.
While it might be nice to fill a void of time, check there is not something better you can be doing with it.
The Nice Guys (2016)
The fifth Lethal Weapon
If you started watching the Nice Guys without seeing the opening credits you'd know instantly that its a Joel Silver film because it feels so much like the Lethal Weapon movies.
The Nice's Guys is a really quirky, kind of oddball movie that gets a little better each time you see it. Gosling is charming as ever in a really wrong way, Crowe less charming but much more lovable than he normally is.
The film is filled with snappy sharp humour, your never more than a few minutes from a laugh. The retro feel is pulled off impeccably, and set design is top end.
This movie is a winner on all levels, and I'll never forget it.
