A pearl on the board full of gems
11 February 2023
Luc Picard (as Gérald Gallant) really plays the stars from heaven here as a stuttering assassin.

We did not expect this, the story itself is quite simple, hitman works for himself (if it suits him) and also for a biker gang. However, these do not know that Gérald also picks the apples from other trees and if there are nice bounties on heads, he betrays you without a twinge of conscience. So a 'little' rascal.

But also in this story at a certain point the draft comes in, because there are traitors walking around and even those who always pay attention 24/7 make mistakes.

And that ultimately costs our Gérald the head!

We thought this was a pearl on the board full of gems and therefore rewarded it with a generous 7, actually an 8-!

Great action movie.

Great action movie, but not realistic at all.

A lot of CGI is used because the "accidents" that happen to John McClane would be fatal for an ordinary person. Hanging from a car that could crash down an elevator ramp at any moment, survive with a truck on a crashing highway and then crash with the F35, dodging bullets in an exploding apartment and so on.

Anyway, the crazier the movie situations, the better?

The scenes are extremely captivating for us as viewers and the story also flows nicely. If the people etc are real in this movie, then they've hired quite a few stand-ins.

I don't know how far from the truth about the incidents of this film, but at the end of the film, if you think about it again, you hope you never have to go through this. A horror scenario!

How safe is our electrical/electronic world really? Would we survive without electricity and all kinds of electronics?

In any case, the film kept us entertained for over 2 hours and the rating is a 7+.

I saw the 175 min film
26 October 2022
Perhaps it is wise for the future viewer(s) to read something about the situation at that time about Yugoslavia.

Maybe on Wikipedia?

Fortunately I had some information through a friend whose parents were originally from this country but on the previous sites I also read about things that were totally unknown to me. (A person is never old enough to learn something) ;)

The film, I have already read comments from others and some were also quite aware of the time this film takes place. Sometimes you use the uniforms to clarify who you are dealing with and luckily I had the performance with the original languages, by the way it lasted 165 minutes in total.

As I read earlier, there are movies in circulation with a 175, 142, 134, 113, and a 102 minute version. Then you come to 6 performances in terms of time. By the way, mine ended without a list of facts, actors and the director. So maybe that was the 175 minute performance.

The playing field of the film is huge, you see long columns with civilians, soldiers and their vehicles and a lot of battle lines where (in my opinion) no money was paid at all and I understand that it is the most expensive (propaganda) film from the former Eastern Bloc has been! The actors do their job well, especially that General Lohring of the Germans (Curt Jurgens) seems funny to me. He pretends to be gods, the army of the Germans. Speaks to his cornered officer with: "We are friends, kill them (the Partisans) and you are a hero, do something for me and I will never forget you". The poor officer has only one strategic choice and that is to dig in and see what the Partisans will do.

The general would rather see him fight to the death! The question is, is he a friend of the general but does he?

The environment where the film takes place is also beautifully portrayed in the film and you can clearly see how they approach each other during the various battles.

Time and effort has been spared and the film captivates (us) from start to finish and that for almost 3 hours!

A great war epic with a message at the end: "Peace, that's what makes me happy"!

8+!

Cold, wet and depressing forests
24 October 2022
A few days on the road with Sergeant István Semetka chasing the Partisans through the birch and pine forests in Russia, at the time of the 2nd World War.

I still remember those forests from over 40 years ago and to be honest, I'd rather cycle through the Dutch forests here than walk there in the Russian ones, but that aside.

The film comes across as cold, wet and depressing. You will not hear any laughter and István is not the happiest either. He continues to stoically look ahead and is not communicatively "the first rooster".

Director Dénes Nagy is also very calm in his use of images, you often see scenes by István, staring into the distance or contemplating something and that takes more than 10 to 20 seconds before the next scene appears.

I like this myself, you see beautiful images, but there are probably also viewers who like action and going on, so I don't recommend this film to them.

Also in terms of acts of war, little happens in the film, once you see a skirmish between the soldiers and the Partisans.

Despite that, my rating is more than sufficient because the film fascinated me, there is an atmosphere around it that appealed to me.

A nice 7+.

Well, it's fiction isn't it?
22 May 2022
Nice film with wonderful degenerate humor in which the main character eventually achieves what he and his friends wanted: "from uncoveted and seen person to wanted and admired person".

Whether his parents and the environment are so happy about that? Well, it's fiction isn't it?

Beautiful 7+.

Realistisch en verontrustend.
28 August 2021
A fierce and uncomfortable film, which far exceeds the boundaries of the real-life genre. Almost all the actors play themselves and especially Nicholas Bro delivers an incredible performance in the role of his alter ego. In the barely nineteen years of his acting career, he has more than 70 films to his name and knows how to portray all his characters, however diverse, with credibility and conviction. He succeeds in doing so again here and just like the main character, the viewer has difficulty distinguishing reality from fiction. The smart direction and restless images also contribute to this. Filming is done almost continuously by hand, often without artificial light in the semi-darkness, creating a gritty and clunky home-movie-like atmosphere. Not a Dogma film by all the rules, but it does have all the elements of it. Lars von Trier would be proud of it. Certainly not a movie for a nice evening in front of the TV with chips and children. Yet another one of those disturbing masterpieces from Scandinavian cinema. The poster on the left suggests something comedy-like, but nothing could be further from the truth!

As a rating an 8!

NB: Don't be fooled by the title: thank goodness this film has nothing to do with the Dutch dragon 'Off Screen' from a year earlier.

Hard times!
22 December 2020
Sir Philip Anthony Hopkins was 47 years young at the time of this film, which was reflected in his firm demeanor and steps. We also see a still young Mel Gibson here as a young actor, he was 28 years old at the time. Both carry the film with verve and that is also noticeable in the film, it runs smoothly and the viewer will not be bored for a moment. Hopkins plays the English captain William Bligh who becomes increasingly strict during a trip to Tahiti, where they will fetch bread trees with their roots and all to transport them to Jamaica. There it could function as cheap food for the slaves present there. Captain Bligh does not come across as a likeable man to the viewer, he is quite punctual and everything has to be done by the "book" which does not look good to his crew. Finally, after a few collisions, his right-hand man, First Lieutenant Fletcher Christian, revolts. With the help of mutiny, Christian eventually gains control of the ship. Bligh is put on a lifeboat with the eighteen men who have remained loyal to him.

Despite the age of the film, we had never seen it and were therefore pleasantly surprised by the story and the filming of it: a 7.5!

The story is really Tom Clancy
23 November 2020
A reasonable action movie about Jack Ryan. In recent weeks I have seen the 2 seasons about this CIA agent and they clearly have more time to explain the story in more detail and better. The first is set in part of the Middle East and the second part in South America, Venezuela.

Quite different from this film, which mainly takes place in Moscow and in which a different actor plays the role of Ryan. To be honest I liked the characters in the series better, John Krasinski (Jack Ryan), Wendell Pierce (James Greer) and Michael Kelly (Mike November) I really liked their roles and they came across very convincing. Not that Chris Pine doesn't look good as Jack Ryan, but it is a matter of getting used to. It is a pity that they did not work with the same actors for the main characters, the films do not differ that much in time. As far as this film is concerned, the action is especially blood-curdling later in the film, the set is beautiful and the story is really Tom Clancy. A 7.
