An Inspector Calls (2018)
I lasted 10 minutes....
Such a shame, for such a great story! The setting and the younger actors (as previous reviews have mentioned) were doing an alright job, but knowing the story and the fact there was never going to be a time when Mr Birling was not in it, I could stand no more than 10 minutes unfortunately.
The actor who plays Mr Birling is clearly the directors father who appears to have no acting experience, or the gift of being able to retain a script to memory. The woodeness and side glances at script cannot be ignored and distracted from everything else! I admire those who could give full reviews of the entire drama.
Luther: The Fallen Sun (2023)
If you loved the series, avoid this movie at all costs!
What a dud!
I am always dubious when a movie of a TV series is made, and if you loved the superb TV series of Luther then you would do well to avoid this movie at all costs- use the time to do something more fulfilling with your life- clipping your toe nails, plucking your nostril hair or picking out navel fluff!
This movie fails on all levels.... script, plot, editing, directing, effects- the lot! It's not even worthy of writing an extensive review on, I'm now going to get on with my life and forget I ever watched this!
We just need to hope these reviews are noted to put them off bothering to make a sequel!
A real shame, as a fan I wanted to enjoy it, but I couldn't find much other than some old familiar faces to even give this a score.
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
A real let down!
My partner and I have for years always looked forward to MCU releases scheduled throughout a calendar year and heading to see some incredibly good cinema, that allows the audience thrilling escapism for 3 hours!
This latest release just makes you want to escape your seat and be elsewhere, using your time more wisely....washing up, watching paint dry.....anything but sit and watch this!
Personally Thor Ragnarok has been one of my faves and I also have really enjoyed a lot of other films starring or directed by Taika Waititi, to the point I thought he was so reliable that I would have watched anything that he had involvement with. He makes quirky films, with excellent storylines and always seems to get the balance of humour right......so I'm disappointed to write, along with many others here, that this movie contains none of that and he seems to have lost himself and the magic he once brought to film, and this film just has a sense of showing-off , nothing more, no substance whatsoever!
This movie will leave you walking out of the cinema dazed and confused because it just never takes off! I've never walked out of a Marvel screening feeling anything less than blown away and wanting more! The really wow of terrific writing and plot twists!
This isn't a film, it tells no story, it is simply a showcase of silliness, with no plot and Christian Bales talents are absolutely wasted with very little screentime - his character was meant to be a main player, but you quickly forget about him and just get lost in being mesmerised with recycled jokes and the feeling of being underwhelmed.
I never thought I'd rate an MCU movie less than a 7 or 8 but this is a 3 at best.
