Self-Made Mansions (2021)
HGTV, this show is a gem
I love the host! And also the clients (who are successful individuals) because they were not pretentious like most house hunter clients. I really enjoy this show and the houses that the host suggest were really great!
Wrong Turn (2021)
I love the ending
Yes, this isn't a typical wrong turn movies that we've watched over the years.
This movie isn't necessarily an original piece in my opinion. It feels like I've watched it somewhere. Probably it's a mix and match with several movies all in one.
I'd like to point out the ending of the movie. I was screaming like "yes! That's how you do it girl!". I love that this movie is more about survival skills and she did whatever it takes to survive.
Perhaps I'll watch again in the future.
Arrival (2016)
Yes, language is a science too!
My perspective on this movie is that it is more humanistic than it is about aliens. Yes, the subject is the aliens coming to the earth and we want to try to configure why they come here. What are their purposes? What can we deal with them? How can they understand us and most importantly, how can we understand them.
But... that's not the focal point here. It is more about humanity. Our values and how can we act when things pressure us. We always fear of the unknown, we defense first before we get to open, we rather fight first than we want to communicate to each other. The different nations that take different course of actions toward the 'alien invasion' really speak to how we live in this world. Most people like the easy way to deal with things but not everyone dares to take the highest roads/risks.
Amy Adams performs her character so divine. I don't think other actress can replace her character here as Dr. Louise Banks. The way she struggles with her health due to brain 'rewiring' and episodic memories that seems to be so real that she tries hard to maintain her ground.
This is the kind of movies that you'll discuss for hours or maybe for years. Everyone has their own interpretation on this. But my interpretation is that the alien come just to give clue that they may need help from human in 3000 years later. Dr. Banks asked "How would you know about the future?" and the Hannah, the child character, is the child that she'll have in the future as she asked to the alien "Who is this child?" and later she knows that she and Ian is the parent to the child. Basically, the alien invasion event is the start of Louise and Ian and their child soon to be dead, Hannah. And she knows this from her communication with the alien. Then at the end of the movie, the aliens around the world just vanished, now they get their message across and understood by one human named Dr. Louise Banks. Later all humanity will understand this, yes, it'll takes just one person that can change the world.
Now, I must say that the writers of this movie, Eric Heisserer and Ted Chiang, are sheer brilliance! This movie is just stunning at its film making, the camera works, the sounds, and everything is just bona fide EXCELLENT to me!
The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016)
How horror movie should be
I've been watching horror movie since I was 11 years old and now at the age of 29, I can pretty say that my expectation on horror movies are getting bitter. Been watching some pretty gory, psycho, jump scares, atmospheric and totally drama soppy kinda horror movies. Now, this movie is totally blew out my expectations.
For me, this is how horror movie should be made. The acting was top notch, you're actually care about the characters in the movie, there were no wasted scenes, the script is intelligent, you can learn a thing or two about pathology (thus, this movie makes science is interesting) and of course the supernatural scenes in this movie makes one of the character said "this thing has passed way post possible", that's when they realize they're dealing with something science can't explain.
If you're a horror fan, GO WATCH THIS MOVIE. Enjoy it and let it moves you.
Jack of the Red Hearts (2015)
Do something good, it's gonna echo back in you
I've been longing to watch AnnaSophia Robb to act something like this. She's the girl that I remembered acting in The Carrie Diaries and Race to Witch Mountain. Certainly, Jack of the Red Hearts will gave her the promising career. I just love her acting here, a lawbreaker and then turns into someone that has a big heart and a sense of responsibility to her sister and Glory, the autistic child.
Her character as a lost teenager who seems clueless about the future and want things like "right here, right now" and couldn't care the consequences were really depicting the struggle of most teenagers. It is true, the best teacher in life is by experienced.
This is a kind of movie that may makes you think after you watched it. Based on my reading, if we do good to others, we will only feel good within ourselves. It means, the virtue of doing good it's not only impacting the person who receive the kindness, but the givers will feel it the most. It'll change themselves to be a better person.
Charity or volunteerism works may altered the problematic teenager to be a better person and ease their transition to be a young adult.
In overall, every characters in this movie worked out well. Not a single wasted scene in this movie. Certainly, this is a kind of movie that will makes your heart kinda heavy and really feel the struggle of the characters in this movie.
I really enjoy this movie. 10/10!
Imperium (2016)
A case on white supremacist terrorist and how a young FBI agent tries to infiltrate the group.
I watched the trailer of the movie months ago on Youtube and frankly, I have high expectation on Daniel Radcliffe. I've watched it, man, I can pretty say that he is so ready to take on more serious roles like this movie. I watched his other movie called Horns (2013). Although it was a fun movie, but Imperium is on another level. It's heavy and slow burn drama. I like it a lot, although I feel there should be rooms for improvement in the plot and script. Nevertheless, I totally enjoy it and even after the movie has ended, genuinely I felt like I want to know more about the characters. It's a solid movie even it could be a low-budget movie.
