Nightmare on Elmo's Street (2015)
Possibly the weirdest movie I've ever seen.
What did I just watch? This might just be the weirdest movie that I've ever seen. And that's saying something.
I gave this 5 stars for the sheer absurdity of this movie. It's poorly made, badly acted and definitely too long. But it's a train wreck that I just could stop watching.
Also, adding to the mess, the first synopsis above is not even close to what this movie about. Go with the 2nd one.
Don't watch this with this kids, don't watch this with your parents, just watch it with a safe person who will not judge you, because things are gonna get weird.
You must watch the whole thing, it just keeps upping the ante as it goes on.
A Nymphoid Barbarian in Dinosaur Hell (1990)
Almost unwatchable
I love me some Troma, but this was just plain bad. I could barely get through it. Missing the gore and camp of most Troma movies as well, which is a large part of the fun of Trpmaville. Great title though!
Day of the Warrior (1996)
God bless you Andy Sedaris!
For us well cultured folk.
Just discovered Andy Sefaris in the last little while. Hilariously cheesy action! Big guns, big boots, big explosions! Yes!
Cheerleader Massacre 2 (2011)
Pretty fun slasher flick.
Here's one sequel that is way better that the original. A better than expected, fun watch. Adds a little bit of Sci-Fi to the slasher genre.
Set the bar low, and enjoy.
Zombeavers (2014)
Really fun movie.
I am surprised that this scores so low. I guess I went in with the bar set pretty low and was pleasantly surprised. Lots of humor and plenty of campy gore.
Alien from L.A. (1988)
Lord help me!
Help me get through this movie. This movie has been on my watch list for ages and finally go to watch it... actually watching it as I type this. It's unbearably terrible... unwatchable even. What a waste of A beauty like Kathy Ireland. I'm dying.
Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977)
What kind of drugs are the 10/10 raters on?
Thus movie made me want to rip out my eyes. It's so bad.
Z Nation (2014)
Making Zombies Fun Again
This series reminds us that Zombies was a fun genre once. It starts off a bit slow and amateurish, but by the 2nd season the fun really takes off. The acting and production seem to just get better as the show goes on.
Definitely a fun ride.
The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020)
Perfectly Dreadful
I wanted to like this sp badly, but I just couldn't. It started so slowly, then seemed to start to pick up only to completely fall apart by episode 5 or 6. Episode 7 was horrendous and somehow 8 was even worse. I couldn't make it through Episode 8. That whole perfectly splendid line i could almost live with, but say "tucked away" one more time, I swear to God...
This seems more geared towards Twilight fans than horror fans.
Night of Something Strange (2016)
This movie is just plain bad, in a fun way!
Some movies are just plain bad, and some are so bad it's good! This definitely falls into the latter category. Terrible acting and down right ridiculous... in a good way!
Another Life (2019)
What are you doiiiiin'
This show is pretty weak, but it sort of hits an all time low in episode 4 with one of the worst drama montages in film history complete with a perplexing song choice.
It does get better, but it's a bit of a train wreck. I'd give the first 4 episodes a 3, and it bounced up to about a 5.5.
Nightflyers (2018)
what an implosion down the final stretch
I liked it at first and really got into it, but wow what an ending! A complete dumpster fire ending. The last episode is laughable and just plain dumb. Be warned.
The Possession (2012)
Not really great but I've seen worse.
This movie had a good premise, a great cast and just fell short. It's one of those movies where otherwise good actors seem wooden at times. It played like a cheap version of the Exorcist and one scene seemed too reminiscent of the "Danny's not here" scene in the shining. I'd give it 5.5 if I could, but 5 will have to do.
The Haunting of Hill House (2018)
Stop watching after episode 9 and use your imagination for the ending
This show was amazing and at times terrifying. The time jumping took some getting used to, but I liked how things tied together as it went along. But the ending, oh it's bad. It's like the writer of the first 9 episodes died and they had to cobble together an ending. I would have given it an 8 or 9 had I not watch that final episode.
The Cloverfield Paradox (2018)
How do people not understand how this fits into the Cloverfield universe?
I really enjoyed this movie, and I'm surprised how many people don't understand it and how it fits the Cloverfield universe. This movie literally explains the Cloverfield universe and what is happening in the first two movies. If you liked the first two movies and were left wanting more explanation, then check this one out. It's definitely worth the watch.
Conan the Barbarian (2011)
Almost unwatchable
There's the so bad it's good movies that are fun to watch, and then there is Conan which is just simply bad. Not a single redeeming qualitie, not even the charasma of Jason Mamoa could shine through the layers of garbage that is Conan the remake.
The Shock Doctrine (2009)
One sided Communist propaganda at it's finest
My 15 year old son came home with this "documentary" yesterday, and I decided that I better keep an eye on what he was watching.
While I will credit the tremendous amount of research that went into this movie, I would have to say that it is fiction based on true historical events. The communist spin that was put on this is abysmal. Don't get me wrong, while being a firm believer in an open market system, I do see the pros and cons of both Capitalism and Socialism. However, this story only looks at the dirty underbelly of the free market system while allowing the viewer to believe that living in Soviet Russian or East Germany was as fine as a summer frolic on the beach until evil capitalists defeated the communist way and ruined the whole party. They even make the fall of the Berlin Wall seem like a tragedy that capitalists couldn't wait to exploit.
The use of the same propaganda phrases used over and over again in this movie sickened me on more than one level. Comparing Capitalism to shock therapy, which was linked to and compared to torture and interrogation methods. They then made reference to (insert capitalist pig here) using any political, social, or environmental tragedy as "instigating the shock treatment" or simply "the shock" by using it as a way to defeat the will of the people who they are enforcing their capitalist regime on.
At the end of the movie, I felt that I had to have a debriefing session with my son and his friend. While many of the unfortunate events that took place in the film were indeed blood on the capitalists hands, there is more blood on the hands of socialism/slash communism than even the Third Reich. I had to explain to him that while there was a rough transition from communism to capitalism in Eastern Europe, it was not unfortunate event that the Soviet Union broke and the Berlin Wall came down. I had to inform him that it was no picnic living in the Soviet states and that many had risked and lost their lives in order to climb the wall or flee other Communist states.
It really is a shame that people forget history and that it really is doomed to repeat itself. I would recommend anybody who watched this to balance it out by learning about the bloody rise to power by the Soviets. Watch a documentary about Stalin, or the Chernobyl melt down and how the Soviets mishandled it and allowed their own people to suffer by having too much pride for western help.
The bottom line here is that films like this are powerful form of propaganda and should be taken with a rather large grain of salt. It's just too bad that impressionable 15 year olds lack the knowledge, experience, and reasoning that is needed to watch this.
2 stars is generous and is only given because the video was well researched and well made.
