Mysteries of the Deep (2020)
I'm enjoying it
I'm on episode 6 and so far I've really enjoyed this show. I'm a big fan of Jeremy Wade and although it's strange not seeing him reel in river monsters, he's a good host for this show. I do see what others are saying in that it can sometimes be a little confusing because it jumps around a little bit from topic to topic but overall, if this type of stuff intrigues you, I would give it a chance. Don't deprive yourself of it because of some bad reviews. Watch it and judge for yourself!
The Lighthouse (2019)
Terrible
This movie was bad. I'm a big Willem Dafoe fan and Pattinson is a great actor but this was WEIRD and not good at all.
Basically the whole movie is Dafoe talking like a salty pirate (arrr matey) to his sidekick, in between bouts of extremely bizarre scenes.
Don't go into it with high expectations and maybe you'll enjoy it but I did the exact opposite.
The Devil Next Door (2019)
I enjoyed it
Ok, so, there are geographical errors BUT...anybody with half a brain knows that Germany invaded Poland and it became an occupied territory. I've always been very interested in history and I know more than the average person probably does. That being said, I never once thought to myself that Poland and the Polish people were running these extermination camps while I watched this documentary. The German nazis created and operated these camps while they OCCUPIED Poland.
I found this show to be very interesting and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I do, however, wish it was longer than 5 episodes. I think there was a missed opportunity to tell more of the story. Everything seemed to move too quickly and I found myself wanting to know more before the series concluded.
I don't think this was a case of mistaken identity. I believe the accusations were correct and he was lying about it. The nazis went to great lengths to cover up what they had done and that includes all who were involved attempting to assume new identities and escape to avoid punishment and certain death. A lot of them were caught and justice was served but a lot of them also escaped and took their secrets to their graves.
True Detective (2014)
Hit and miss
The first season was absolutely amazing. Lots of twists and turns, keeps you wanting more. It will never be the same without McConnaughey or Harrelson.
Second season was horrible. I can't even tell you what happened or what was going on and I watched it twice.
I was excited for the 3rd season, hoping it would revive the show and make it great again. It was just ok...Ali and Dorff made a good combo but overall the season was a little underwhelming to me.
First season 10/10
Second 4/10
Third 6.5/10
1922 (2017)
I enjoyed it!!
This movie was way better than I expected it to be. It takes you back to simpler times where hard work was a way of life and money was tough to come by for the blue collared farmer.
When Wilfred and his wife disagree on what's to be done with a hundred acre plot of land, they begin to drift apart and resent each other. Each had different visions of what was to be done with it.
As Wilfred carries out his evil plan, everything he holds dear begins to slowly slip away, including his sanity.
I thought this movie did a great job showing that the human mind is capable of conjuring up almost anything in order to get what one wants. Then, the consequences that follow. Thomas Jane did a fantastic job taking on the role of his character as well. A much different role than we are accustomed to seeing him in!
