A one-man band fiasco
5 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Erik Franklin, acting as Ray O'Brien, overextends himself as actor, writer, director, editor - in fact the rolling end credits give him at least nine job titles. Others with the same surname share another dozen job titles. A real family affair like so many films financed by Indiegogo. You'd think the writer would have given himself a more likable character. For example when hitchhiking Michelle and Ray are picked up by a considerate driver, Ray proceeds to constantly berate and abuse the driver - no gratitude whatsoever for being picked up. The CGI ranges from fairly high quality to images with only smooth undefined details you would expect as pre-viz temporary place holders.

Three aliases
25 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
At the time of this writing, this film has three titles: Iron Invader, Iron Golem, and Metal Shifters (plural title, one creature - misleading). Aliases are usually used to disguise identity. Perhaps the hope was that consumers might mistakenly buy three titles expecting to see three different movies. Having written that, the film has several A-list Canadian sci-fi actors reacting to a well conceived CGI monster. Not a terrible way to spend 90 minutes.

Yongary saved by Icho
8 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
At one point Yongary is lying comatose after being doused with ammonia. At this point he could be easily vanquished by the military. Unfortunately young Icho comes along with his itch-inducing gun which he uses to awaken and reenergize Yongary so he can resume his destructive spree. No one admonishes the child who shows no remorse for his action. He is clearly a bad role model for young South Koreans.

Monster movie or high camp?
31 August 2020
The producers apparently couldn't decide so they blended the two genres. The monster and the CGI are well done, while the actors ham it up beyond ridiculous. Viewers who appreciate traditional Kaiju films may be put off by the slapstick jokes and grimaces, while those who watch for the humor may be offended by the horror aspects.

An excellent Trish-centric episode
4 August 2020
Rachel Taylor (Trish) finally gets a chance to demonstrate a wider range of acting skills than heretofore. It is also obvious that she does many of her own stunts; all ably directed by Krysten Ritter (Jessica) in her directorial debut. Jessica has less screen time than usual allowing her to concentrate on directing. Looking forward to more Trish-centric episodes, and possibly even a spin-off, as well as more episodes directed by Ms Ritter.

Superb young actresses
30 April 2020
Kudos to the casting department for finding two young actresses who could be clones of the actresses portraying the older Alex and Kara. Not only do these two young talents closely physically resemble their older counterparts; the younger ones clearly spent time studying the expressions and mannerisms of the elders the better to mimic them. One can hope they will return in future flashbacks.
