The Rebound (2009)
"Is there a safe word I should be aware of?"
This is mindless a rom-com with some funny moments, a gorgeous Zeta-Jones and a gorgeous but gross John Schneider using chiropractic moves as foreplay is something to watch when nothing else is available. Schneider's port-a-potty scene set him up for obvious failure. Justin Bartha experiences typical Jewish angst with depressive melodrama and a good moment in a padded suit at an urban defense class run by a very funny lesbian who's looking for love or at least sex. The rest is a long learning experience about love, friendship, parental overprotectiveness and two cute kids. I give it an 8 because I feel generous. It's really a six, and that's probably generous too.
Meet Cute (2022)
Meet Over and Over and Over Not too Cute
This is advertised as a rom-com. It is not funny and is just barely romantic. It is desperate and sad. Sheila, the romantic lead character, is not having the best day of her life as she claims when she first steps into the nail salon. Kaley Cuoco is a talented and engaging performer who does add dimension to her character but even she can not save this film. The only revelation is Pete Davidson. The man can act and act quite well, and he proves it in this should-have-been-better movie. I want to see him in every project he does in the future. Upside is, Kaley looks good in orange and white gingham, but not so much in a mustache. Watch it for those two. They did their best.
