Alexander: The Making of a God (2024)
Here we go again!
What is happening here? Why history isn't history anymore? It's quite appalling how facts are being served through movies and series. We know that Alexander had a close friend, but not to the point of a whole drama thing, -holding hands amid battlefield, calling each other Alex and Heph- and other high school drama. The reason why these things should be priority when making a historical movie/series is beyond perception for me. It's like the industry thinks we are more interested for gossip, rather than real history. We all know the legendary Alexander, the glorious, half divine king, the one that went beyond limits, a diplomat, a philosopher, establisher of ancient Greek civilization in places that most never even know for their existence. The mere title The Making of a God, promised a lot, but the series failed to deliver that process. In the first episodes, the producers were literally galloping to display an erotic scene of Alex (name of a guy working in a gas station (no offense, just a random POV) with Heph, making out in a river or lake, who cares. With the same gallop, they killed Philip and immediately sent Alex away in a battle, where I have to point out that one could see the lack of emotion in Alexander's speech in front of the army, the lack of budget maybe, in setting a proper battle and battlefield, and lack of importance in that aspect. Everything was hollow, it lacked substance and proper characters. 1 star only for the effort of the people and archaeologists who were contributing with facts. Other than that, it deserves zero stars.
Fear the Walking Dead (2015)
Quite a stretch!
Madison was the heart of this series! I understand that this series aimed to be as unpredictable as possible and have unexpected events, but that doesn't mean you decide to just kill main characters! The show completely lost its meaning after season 4. Attempts were made to replace Madison with Alicia, but it couldn't work out. I could never take her seriously. Something was off regarding her character. She tried hard and the acting is on point, but I couldn't see a strong woman in her. In the first seasons she always appeared to have beautiful, maintained hair, I could even see highlights in the 3d season, like, in the zombie apocalypse women are doing make up and hair?? Totally off. However, that changed through the seasons and she started delivering something. In the other hand we had creative Nick, and in the last seasons, John, who both get killed by some young girls that just started to use guns. Like, seriously? The show goes on, one madness after another, the plot gets perplexed, it's about humans quarrels now, who cares about the zombies. They are just here and there from time to time but most important, humans start killing each other for territories. Just great. In an episode in season 6, there is an attempt to add an element of connection between state of consciousness and unconsciousness, like a connection between two dimensions, which was really odd and totally unnecessary in a zombie series. Plot got more and more complicated throughout the seasons and it completely lost its sense. It would have been better to not stretch this show this much, rather 4 seasons would be more than enough. It was a surprise to see Madison again, but, to be honest, at season 7 I couldn't be invested anymore.
Blood, Sex & Royalty (2022)
POV
Apparently this is how Gen Z likes to view history and historical events. The music, the minimization of the most dramatic, sensitive and crucial moments, are ridiculous to the point of erasing the emotional side of attachment to the very important events that occurred during the Tudors dynasty. I remember watching The Tudors (the series) and I strongly recommend it if you want to see the real, factual history of Henry the VIII, how profoundly I felt the character and personality of Anne Boleyn, and how beautifully everyone is portrayed. This one felt like a mockery of history, and sadly, sometimes I feel like recent series and movies are trying so hard to detach us from the plot/fact, and shift our attention to details like garments, general non-verbal communication, the usual small-talk or gossip (drama qweens), little unimportant impressions and other elements that do not contribute at all in the film. It is also very obvious that rich dialogues and speeches are totally removed lately, cause maybe social media literally swiped our ability (especially younger generations) to fully comprehend complex phrases, situations, events etc. It is very sad to see openly how everything is also being submitted to political correctness and virtue signaling. Although I do not support historic movies falling to this scheme, it is okay to create fiction movies under that frame.
Z Nation (2014)
Not what you expect of a Zombie series
The series is funny, silly, goofy and sometimes too much of every other genre. It combines elements of dystopia, sci-fi, horror, by sometimes adding too much to it. The thing that would annoy me sometimes was that the characters were often well maintained, Addy had perfect dark red hair, wavy, luscious and clean, a good make up, perfectly plucked eyebrows etc. I also noticed Warren's fake lashes and that insignificant change of hair color from black to blonde after being sent to Zona. Anyway, the series is nothing like The Walking Dead. I liked the fact that zombies were evolving or developing certain mutations to adapt to any circumstance or habitat, like for example the phyto-zombies, the blasters, the talkers, which made the killing more fun and made me curious about their features, while in The Walking Dead I did not expect any certain change, just hordes of zombies which you could kill them by just a shot in their head. There was no typical war with zombies rather than an effort to find solution (a cure, a vaccine) for a different future, adaptation if necessary, coexistence even. Although sometimes I was rolling my eyes during some episodes in season 3 and 4 because some scenes were like too much effort for nothing, all in all I enjoyed it.
The King (2019)
What on Earth was this???
The King? More like: the Boredom!
What was this? Incomprehensible dialogues, poorly chosen actors, a desperate attempt to inflict thrill and emotions, a total waste of two hours, an absolute failure in conveying anything to an audience!
It is the first historical movie that I don't like at all. How could it be this bad, this irritating and this dull at the same time?
Spent the last thirty minutes wondering whether the Dauphin was Robert Pattinson. I strongly do not recommend this stale, long, vain, inglorious, pointless movie. I will never understand why is this an award winning film.
Cringe!
Me Before You (2016)
Someone missed the point!
It was a great movie, the acting was delightful, but I see that some people missed the point. I don't think that this film was about suicide and the fact that when you are disabled you should take your life and never fall in love with someone! On the contrary, the mesage was about selfishness, and the main character was so selfish and egocentric that nothing, nobody would break him or restrict him from doing what he wanted to do with his own life. Lou took him merely as a project, without knowing whether she or he will develop any feelings throughout. I see him as a person who knows himself, knows what he wants, doesn't care about other people's feelings and wants to feel superior. He acts superior, he decides to end his life, meaning his mindset is superior to everyone around him. He did things his own way and that was that. Him before anyone else. Hence the title!
Sweet Girl (2021)
Are you kidding me?
No, seriously, are you kidding me? This movie is just STUPID in every damn aspect! An absolute waste of my time!
How can someone stitch together so many illogical and dumb scenes?
The acting was good, but pretentious. This movie was terribly irrational! I just cannot go on anymore. It doesn't even deserve a long review.
The Queen's Gambit (2020)
A movie would be enough
Quite a stretch for a story about chess and chessplayers. I would have enjoyed it more if it was a 2hrs movie. Pretty much uneventful and very PC.
Stranger Things (2016)
Still good!!!
Despite the fact that season 3 appears like a letdown, this tv show was just GREAT! No need for pointing out details, it was captivating enough. Everything was intense and thrilling. Quite a journey!
Dark (2017)
Oh WOW!
I just can't explain how beautiful it is to see all these 10* ratings! Finally the whole world is enjoying something that really deserves to be praised like that. I feel like we became one entity just by appreciating this series equally. I am happy!!!
The Witches (2020)
Poor!
I am rating it 4 stars only because behind what I saw, I imagined other versions that could be far better than this one. I haven't seen the original version nor I haven't read the book, but I see that this movie lacks a lot! It lacks proper dialogue, interaction etc. The only character I loved was the grandma. I loved the kid, he did the best, but not for too long. Chris Rock's voice was so annoying, it made the whole plot sound ridiculous. My expectations were much higher when I saw Anne Hathaway is going to be the Grand Witch. Her acting was okay, the makeup was just stupid. Why did the witches have to be so fashionable I don't understand. Concerning the witches, they barely had a say during the entire movie. The CGI was unbelievably poor. It felt like this movie had too many unfulfilled deadlines, so they had to wrap things up as soon as possible to release it on the due date.
Jojo Rabbit (2019)
Finally, a recent masterpiece!
This movie gave me the "La vita e bella" vibes! What a journey! A complex of feelings, going from sadness to happiness and back and forth. I absolutely loved every minute of this movie. The main character was just a delight and so talented he will definitely be a future star. I also loved Johansson in this movie, she was admirable, charming, delightful and carefree.
I think we needed this perspective of viewing the past events, since it is necessary to move on and make peace with our history. We do not have any other choice besides acceptance and moving on.
Rising Free (2019)
Seriously?
I saw the high ratings and decided to watch this movie. I couldn't believe this was it! The slowest and the dullest movie ever, I sometimes cringed. The main character's acting was the weirdest ever: facial expressions without shedding any tear (?) I mean what happened to her was horrid and brutal, but she couldn't convey that through her acting. Benjamin's lines were poor as hell, come on, that guy was stiff as a piece of wood. I could sense he wanted to talk more but couldn't do that, especially during the scene with James, his brother. On the other hand, Ethel was just 'eh'. Low budget movie, the story was good I was expecting something like 12 years a slave or Django Unchained vibe, but nope.
Lastly the thing that bothered me was the fact that the title means something entirely different from the actual plot. SPOILER ALERT I don't see where's the link between rising free and get married with someone you encounter by chance and have a kid? Not that I am an ultra feminist or something, but I was expecting more from Nakomei, not just a settle down as every woman on the planet. This movie was truly a disappointment.
Shooting Heroin (2020)
Dull
I know it is quite a pity to call this movie dull and dreadful, because it is based on real stories and real people who lost a sister/brother/son/daughter due to drugs. Despite this fact, the acting was so poor and there was lack of action. Nothing meaningful happened in the entire movie. The actions were scattered here and there, there was no correlation between the characters, and everyone was dealing on their own ways. Very painful to watch, hopefully not too long. I think it would be better if this was a documentary. Maybe I would have enjoyed it more.
Orange Is the New Black (2013)
2 Stars only for Season 1 and 2
Season 3 was a total disappointment! What happened??? I don't even know why this series is overrated. It's like someone lost track of what happened at the first two seasons, but still managed to gather some pieces here and there and let the third season out anyway. Absolutely a waste of time, poorly written, dull, couldn't care about any character anymore, and Chapman was irritating all the time. I couldn't stand her throughout the last episodes of season 2 and even less throughout season 3. I was constantly rolling my eyes every time she appeared. I had high expectations for her and Alex, their relationship and persona. They couldn't develop beyond their 'high-school' attitude and meaningless actions. I think there is no need to drag the series on and on when it lacks any substance.
Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)
Thank you!
I just want to thank everyone who made this movie. This is a major contribution to cinematography. It is an amazing work, thank you for bringing Queen so close to us.
Thank you Rami Malek, you are amazing, I barely could tell the difference between you and Freddie. Your acting was so intense, I love your persona.
The movie was only 2 hrs and 14 min, but I could have watched it even if it would be 6 hrs long.
