Civil War (2024)
Not Worth Paying to See.
A great disappointment as far as keeping me interested in the characters and the plot. I went to see it based on the high rating on IMDB. I should have read some of the comments first. It looks like it's rated high by people who have a fantasy of getting rid of the president and the government. I don't think I have to explain further ("This is where we are headed"... "A story that needs to be told")
Things I didn't like most;
The premise. Who would ever think that California and Texas would band together to overthrow the country? Stupid. Also the part where most Americans are "trying to ignore what's happening". Dumb.
The plot. There is no back story about how things got to this point. There was plenty of time to provide this if they cut out the boring film time of flying helicopters, road driving scenes and pointless discussions between the characters at road stops.
There was no reason to care about the characters. Kirsten Dunst just can't carry a film like this. I suppose she is supposed to be a PTSD victim or weary of her other war experiences. But to me she just looked bored. There is no depth to the other characters as well. No real soulful interaction between them or backstory to make you care. They just appear on screen and it's "go!". For instance, before they go on the road trip, Joel decides to bring the young Jessie with them. His decision was made during a night of drinking and camaraderie among the Press people that was never shown. It would have added a lot to the story if they had added this and included some laughs and caring interaction between characters that appear later in the film. There are no light moments in this movie.
Unbelievable things; Jessie is terrified by what's happening around her and to her. Then all of the sudden she changes. She fearless and takes crazy chances. There is no reason or explanation given.
The music; It just doesn't go with the filmed scenes. It's not even good music.
The final scenes were "Just as I thought" type of stuff. Not such a big deal because there was no investment in what happens to the characters. I could go on but I don't want to include spoilers. If you want to see it I'd wait until it's streamed for free. It should be soon.
Jurassic World Dominion (2022)
See It At the Discount Theater or Stream It.
Unless you have kids that love dinosaurs and would love to see them on the big screen you can wait to see this on your TV. The special effects are great, so there's that.
But overall the new Jurassic World Dominion movie is a bomb. As in not a good one. Dumb plot, ridiculous premises and same ol' same ol' stuff. The idea that these creatures and people would live together in cities is off the charts. One scene shows kids at the park with ducks and little dino's running around. What do they think dinosaurs eat? Another scene has the Pyro Raptor living in a frozen cold climate. Not a place a cold blooded reptile would be.
In the end there's not enough Chris Pratt and Jeff Goldblum and too much Sam Neill and Laura Dern. All chasing after a cute (Isabella Sermon) but unlikable girl who was kidnapped for some other ridiculously 'out there' reason. Truthfully I fell asleep in the middle. Keep your money in your pocket.
Outer Banks (2020)
Started Out Well
The series started out well but then the plot started being repetitive and ridiculous in the second season. The young people keep making dumb mistakes causing them to find and lose two treasures which keep changing hands. One time they finally find it but, of course, they have to leave the treasure when one of them becomes urgently sick. They screw their parents over and over and their parents keep letting them off the hook. They never work or eat so apparently they don't need food or gas money. The girls magically change their clothes even though they are continually on the run. Also, apparently a bullet to the stomach can be fixed with a few days rest. Just expect that whenever someone is getting away something stupid will happen so they don't. I suppose I should just go along with it and be entertained but it gets frustrating watching how ridiculous the circumstance and plot evolve. I hope it comes back around because so any of these series I've stopped watching when they stray too far outside of reality.
Green Rush (2020)
Definitely a B Movie
I saw the high rating, ran down to the box to get it but hadn't notice the small number of people who had given it a rating. Probably most of them are friends of the actors and people involved in the production. It's poorly acted, filmed and written. On the other hand, since I rented it and the Covid thing keeps me home, I did watch it beginning to end. It has it's merits. For instance if you like a medium good looking girl walking around in her underwear half of the film. I haven't bothered to look up the "true story" but I guess the moral is "you reap what you sow" when becoming one of those that are a part of the drug supply chain.
Columbus (2017)
A very slow, methodical story of two people dealing with parent issues.
If you're at all tired don't watch this movie. You will fall asleep. It may be interesting if you or someone you love is dealing with parent issues. But if not then there is no point to spending the time with this one. I tuned in because of the high scores here on this page but I can't understand that. The acting is done well enough but there's no break through performances here. The story line is bland. No big build up or let down. Just boring people living boring lives and having boring struggles. I gave it five stars because I've spent time watching worse. That's a pretty sorry story in itself isn't it?
Sausage Party (2016)
A Pedophiles Dream
Unfortunately if you watch the YouTube clip with Rogan commenting on the last sex scene Rogan says it's vile. That applies to the whole movie. The unfortunate part is that he's actually admiring his own work. What does that say about him? It's a known fact that pedophiles show badly made cartoon character porno films to children to entice them into sexual relations. A copy of this highly polished professionally made cartoon porno film is a pedophiles dream. Putting it in the hands of those people is criminal. If you know someone who you think is a little suspect and you know has bought this film do not allow your children alone in their home. The cartoon promotes IV drug use as mind expanding, depicts anal assault, oral sex, multiple partners, suicide and much, much more. I know it's an adult rated film but the fear is that impressionable children will find a way to watch it if it's accessible. Believe me your children will hear about it from school friends who's parents don't care about their children and there's plenty of those. Please, if you buy this film please lock it up like you do your guns. As a society we admonish and stop retailers who use the cartoon format to target youth for cigarettes, alcohol and other damaging products. But our modern Hollywood "censors" allow this trash to be made and distributed. It's no wonder other nations see the U.S. as morally bankrupt. Yes I saw it. From the previews I thought it would be a funny movie spoofing scifi concepts. Once I realized what it was I ended up staying for the entire film because I wanted to be able to write about this stinker from first hand knowledge. BTW it's not even funny.
