Kodachrome (2017)
Jason Sudeikis shines
We always see Jason typecast in comedy films like horrible bosses, but this film makes him shine as an actor, where his character is conflicted between his job and father who was never there for him when he grew up.
The direction showed a fine balance enough to get both son's and father's point of view, without overdoing any angle, so as not to indulge the audience judgement towards any character. Just showing as is in a neutral lens, only depicting what each of them think of the other.
The chemistry between Jason Sudeikis and Elizabeth Olsen is good. Ed Harris was good in his role, but I feel Jason was better in his.
Killer Elite (2011)
Absurd
The thing that I most disliked is that Jason Statham is a former assassin, doing immoral acts but he thinks he has the right to explain morals to Clive Owen who is former SAS (at the end of the film).
The other thing I disliked is that Jason Statham was able to match former SAS in fight, but he couldn't fight the Arabs and release Robert De Niro. And the last thing he did before retirement was to kill for vengeance for things happened during War which were not War Crimes. And he speaks morals.
Absurd. Even 4 / 10 is high.
Fargo (2014)
Review for S1
The cast was good. But I believe Martin Freeman deserves better praise than Billy Bob Thornton, as Billy's character had confined expressions, same steely gazes and dialogue delivery in undertones. Whereas, Martin Freeman showed improvement from being meek to one who likes his gaining popularity to being confident meanwhile being manipulative in all these three stages. I would award him as the best actor for Fargo S1 rather than Billy.
In Series where there is a true detective kind of screenplay ( I mean 8 to 10 episode series with slow story progression) I liked Bosch better.
Doctor Who (2005)
Creative without logic
This is a review of Seasons 11 and 12.
What actually is going on? Utterly incomprehensible. There are only preachings, preachings and preachings.
When we watch a TV show, we would like to escape from the outside world and watch. You are bringing everything into the TV series, how can we escape?
Why can't Doctor Who be about exploring new wonders in the Universe, rather than being about stopping ominous events or occurrences? Every episode is about ominous happenings only, that is tiresome. TARDIS alerts you about some mass destructions blah blah blah and the Doctor goes there, but can't figure it out, even the scanner doesn't get any readings. Everytime. It is indeed uninteresting.
I say Creative with no logic because,
1. Every fantasy storylines are about destruction of Human Race. Including Doctor Who. What good comes to conquerors? What happens afterwards? There is no answer to those questions.
2. What is going be our future which Doctor Who stopped? Is it the Stenza or is it the Dreg or is it the Cybermen? Everytime TARDIS took Doctor to the time when the mass destruction has already happened. TARDIS could have taken them to the event that started the destruction. But no. That didn't happen.
Obviously, I don't know the whole Doctor Who story, but I am disappointed. I don't want to know more. Keep on generating more and more storylines complicating things ultimately it will be one big mess.
War (2019)
Outlandish
The director must have been thinking this is a hollywood movie about CIA or the TV series Blacklist, which the audiences will be sure to watch, though there are outlandish ideas.
I don't know how the movie made such a big business as the most successful film of the year. I couldn't digest the movie.
Hrithik in this movie behaves as if he is Ryan Reynolds of Bollywood.
Vani Kapoor's character's insistence on making a world tour and giving a speech on the battles faced by middle class Indians is clearly hypocritical.
And then there is the stone face of Tiger Shroff.
Elementary: Unfriended (2019)
A very unnecessary episode.
My question to the makers is if they want to prove Odin is more powerful than Morland, Morlands friend could have told it afront.
And Morland only did try to setback Odin. If Odin was as powerful to have even Morland killed, it would have been known beforehand. This episode is hence ridiculous as was the whole series.
I don't know why the makers are killing off Sherlock's family and that too in the most ridiculous of ways.
Elementary: Whatever Remains, However Improbable (2018)
Terribly disappointed
Running like fugitives for a crime they didn't do is dishonorable. The build up given for Michael Rowan the whole season makes everyone expect his story arc to end in the finale. Maybe the writers thought that to be routine and decided to kill him off in the penultimate episode. But the way it is presented is utterly disappointing to me. There can be more respectable ways of making the duo shift to London, but they had to disgrace them, which is just sad. Better to call off the series, now that they reached London, any story that the makers are planning will only become a deviation.
The Untouchables (1987)
Disappointed.
I stopped watching the movie once Sean Connery is shot. I didn't want to watch further.
Additionally, it is said that Al Capone didn't want to threaten or kill Prohibition officials, but the film showed assassination of the Accountant and Malone. Historically inaccurate.
The Man in the High Castle (2015)
Whole Purpose Defeated!! Utterly Disappointed!!
I watched till Episode 2 of Season 2 in Amazon Prime.
Season 1 was showing some hope. The way Juliana Craine's story evolved in Season 2 was utterly disappointing. Joe Blake's story line showed some closure but others' went into a chaos. I stopped watching it. No need to see. If after reading this review when someone still watches the Series, I can't help them.
Purpose was not clear. It was not explained. And then it got deviated. A few moments that Juliana spent with Abendsen started the fall of the series. There should have been a twist there and the story should have gone in a different path with those few moments as stepping stone.
Juliana Craine wants answers to her questions. But, she left herself hanging in the middle when she sent Joe Blake away on a boat. That's when scales fell from my eyes on the TV Series.
Elementary (2012)
It is Elementary that it is different from Sherlock
My review is edited till the latest episode of Season 7.
Odin Reichenbach is supposed to be a formidable opponent and it took just 10 episodes to develop him from nothing to everything. It is confusing to imagine that a man of Morland's stature, network and resources couldn't gauge the power of Odin. How is that possible? And suddenly, Odin has grown stronger from being intimidated by Morland to have him killed, in only 1 episode. How's that possible?
I liked the Moriarty being Jamie rather than James, I liked the Watson being Joan rather than John, I liked the father of Sherlock, Morland having a powerful characterization (WOW! John Noble, you did great!) especially how it worked out in Season 4 finale. That was brilliant. I cannot imagine anyone else other than John Noble in Elementary and I don't want to watch anyone else other than John Noble.
Captain Gregson and Detective Bell are good additions as characters and cast.
I did not like the way Sherlock treated his family i.e. Mycroft and Morland. Always, it were them who have to make amends but he wouldn't budge even a little. And I didn't like the abrupt removal of Mycroft in Season 2 finale.
I would have liked to see the budding romance between Mycroft and Joan elevate further, which was nipped in the said episode. I would like to see that Sherlock makes amends to the relation he maintains with Mycroft and Morland. Because the series depicts his emotional awkwardness, which I think Sherlock should acknowledge and correct himself to be complete as an individual. I would like to see Mycroft on screen once again rekindling his romance with Watson
I am not venturing to compare this with Sherlock, because those two are entirely different interpretations and depictions.
