Long Lost (2018)
A Suspense Story with Unexpected Twists
This is a really unique and never predictable film that took me through a range of emotions. It tells the story of a man who receives a mysterious letter to spend a weekend with someone who turns out to be a brother he didn't know he had. As the story unfolds, a strange competition between the two unfolds filled with manipualting, abuse, bribery, revelations, soul-searching and a lot of surprises. A refreshingly unique take on the "long lost" sibling story and, especially for an independent movie, really well executed.
Blind and Battered (2019)
Fascinating and Strange True Story
I was fascinated by this story and the "character" of Mac Wayne and the people in his life. It's the story of a man who aspires to great things despite his disabilities with the dark twist that his disability is a self-inflicted gun shot wound and his aspirations are to be a great criminal. It's funny at times, moving at others and sometimes even a bit disturbing. It's interesting to see the similarities and differences between a real-life kingpin and the kind you see in the movies. Definitely worth a watch.
Broken Ceiling (2018)
A film that shows the strength and commitment of women
A really good and important film about women tired of being discriminated against in the workplace and passed over for promotions because of the belief that men "because they have a higher degree of intelligence." This story really riled me up and makes me want to do more and to fight the system and raise awareness about the issue. A very enjoyable film with a great message as well as a really good cast!
The Fight of Our Lives: Defeating the Ideological War Against the West (2018)
f 5 starsA very challenging political documentary - even if you don't agree.
While I don't agree with most of the points made in this documentary, I have to give it a lot of credit for putting together a very challenging series of arguments that made me think and challenge my own views. I value listening to different sides, even though some of the arguments were "straw man" arguments in my opinion, while others I want to think more about and do my own research. That's the sign of a good documentary! Very high quality, exhaustive interviews and footage and graphics. Entertaining while arguing a bold, controversial point that could be taken as a warning about the self-destruction of Westner society and innovation.
Purdah (2018)
Heartbreaking and hopeful look into a big dream.
This documentary shows us how Muslim women must fight against the laws of Islam that do not allow them to do activities that are cataloged as exclusive for men. These women must find ways to get away with breaking these rules and and fight for gender equality. This is something I deeply care about and this movie was a chance to get inspired and even more interested/passionate about this issue. The bigger message is to pursue your passion and to live life with love in your heart, despite daunting challenges at home and in society. A very well done and in depth documentary!
Stadium Anthems (2018)
A dark and funny look at the music industry.
This is a very smart and funny music industry satire which illuminates the inner workings of the industry and gives a point of view behind closed doors at a medium sized record label and some of the shady things that go on. The music is great and the cast is solid and very unique. Believable, smart, funny and thought provoking!
