Very amateur, poor story with a some hypermasculinity thrown in
3 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The story is quite slow and the writing is poor. The lead character is clearly socially inept. The 2 friends are a juxtaposition of sorts; one is very friendly and liberal, the other is quite toxic. There's one scene where Mark interrogates Nathan as to why he goes running with Connor when they both live quite far away. The whole kiss scene with Adam is incredibly weird and not well written. It's like they intended for Nathan to bring Connor out of his shell but the execution is poor. The character of Mark takes issue with everyone in the movie at some point and it serves no purpose other than for the other characters to repress themselves. If anything he's a bully. It doesn't serve the story in the long run. Take my advice....swerve it.

Critics wrong....again
14 June 2019
The story the movie is based on is quite vast, spanning multiple comics. So the full story could never fit neatly into a movie, not even 2. The basic elements are taken here. My expectation with this movie was a drama based story centred around Jean Grey, and that's what I got. I'm astonished at just how negative reviews have been. The film would never have Jean slaughter thousands of people because its just not feasible for the target audience. The character has to be redeemable. The action scenes could have been much more vast, but I believe the intent here is to keep the action scenes intense, not too broad. It worked early on, but in some instances it didn't. That said, I enjoyed this take on the story, much more than X3. It's sad this iteration of the XMen is coming to an end as it moves over to MCU, but i do feel it ended on a good note. Pay no attention to the critics. This, in my opinion, is a good send off for the Fox films.

Light hearted, funny and very british

I waited a while to watch this show and avoided reviews. The show is witty and full of adolescent humour, easy viewing which sometimes is difficult to find which wont bore me. For some reason I found the story of Adam much more engaging as i found his isolation and his struggle to find himself much more relatable to me when i was young. My only gripe was the predictable narrative for the most part. There was only one or 2 things that threw me, but apart from that, a great series! Cant wait for series 2!

the usual generic tropes
1 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
First of all I will say the movie is alright, but has plenty of flaws. If you're after a generic story which doesnt really get the chance to develop with the same unhappy endings most lgbt movies throw out then this is for you. The sheer fact they go from having a friendly drink, to staring at each other, straight to the bedroom after one day is baffling, but then to carry this tryst forward to an abrupt halt is bizarre. The ending ruins the experience and to me. The stereotypical bigotry from the dad was expected from the start. The fact tareq just leaves and that's that felt like i'd wasted 110 minutes for nothing. Overall, movie was alright but don't have high expectations and you'll most likely enjoy it.
