Aattam (2023)
Perfect Drama
Well well well! Aattam is one of the finest drama in Mollywood. Well written and perfectly executed one. Anand Ekarshi deserves a big applause for this movie. Even with it's simple way of story telling, the movie does makes the audience engaging through out. Apart from few artists, most of them are not a regular mainstream or established actors. But kudos to them, sure that audience has never felt any drawbacks. I feel disappointed to miss this experience in theatre. In the end the director wraps the movie with few interesting questions to the audience. Personally I like those kind of endings in a drama. It is good to leave something for the audience to think of from the movie. If you love dramas go for it. Great work.
Ottu (2022)
Wasted
Sorry to mention this movie as a making failure. Clearly not understand why Fellini TP hasn't made an effort to bring any good to this movie. The story line had great chance of a road movie and failed to include the intensity. Dialogues seems bit odd in every scene. Didn't know if it was done deliberately. Thought they were in a rush to release the film and complete the post production within no time. To be honest, the thread of the story is a good one. But poorly fell short in making. They should've concentrated little bit more in the main department. Music and BGM is okay. Not so bad. But man, how can they carelessly make such a movie. In simple words, Fellini failed to make the most out of a good opportunity. If they can take enough time and do the post production works well, I hope chapter 1 and 3 might be a big success. Totally Disappointed with this one.
Oru Thekkan Thallu Case (2022)
A short story well made
ORU THEKKAN THALLU CASE is a perfect example of how a small thread of story can be picturised well in to a cinematic experience. Usually stories such as short as these are complexed in to many events in the movie. Kudos to the entire team and director Sreejith for making this movie a brilliant watch feast.
Biju menon, Roshan, Padmapriya and Nimisha Sajayan were the lead actors in this movie. Everyone has performed to their best. OTTC is a realistic and fresh approach. The story is happening in the Southern part of Kerala. The Art, choreography deserves a big praise as they've put the maximum effort to show the period of pre 2000 in the specific part of a state. Also the improvisation in the slang of the particular place is also top notch. Overall a funny, fresh and realistic watch.
Thallumaala (2022)
One time watch
Thallumala is so far the best in 2022 in regards of the cinematography, music, action sequences and the unique way of story telling. Makers has really made the effort to make the film really colourful and engaging.
'Even though the movie has impressed in the few departments as mentioned at the start of this review, this movie failed to coup up to the expectations.'
Lot's of characters are being introduced in this movie from start to end. Even there was a huge field of opportunities to develop the story in a big portrait, they decided not to take such risks. That is the main drawback of this movie. The script has failed poorly.
Still the storytelling is done in an unique way where many others hasn't attempted. But yes, we've seen the approach in some films before.
Even there is a big cast in this movie, Lukman is the standout performer in Thallumala. He has done it cleanly. We're yet to see this guy's best performance. He has a huge potential. Another big positive is Shine Tom Chacko. As usual he is best for this kind of role.
Cinematography at it's best. We won't see that too often. Kudos to the team.
BGM & Music will stay as one of the unique and fresh album for a long time in Malayalam Industry.
Action sequence does makes us feel to have a fight.
All these positives kept aside, the script lacks. Personally, I feel this movie is slightly overrated. But for an experience of a fresh and unique way of presentation of the movie it is recommended to watch.
Kammara Sambhavam (2018)
People are trapped in history and history is trapped in them.
Wow, just wow!.. What a perfect cinematic experience.. Take a bow, Murali Gopy. He is a genius of his work always. I've seen people criticizing this movie before and now I know why. Believe me. If you're gonna watch this movie for entertainment purpose or to kill time, you're gonna find it boring and lagging. If you haven't seen this movie and wish to watch this, make time and have a seat. Watch carefully from the beginning itself. If you miss something from any part, it might go the other way.
This is a gem of a film directed by Rathish Ambat and written very well by Murali Gopy. The way it was written and executed does makes us think twice on the historical events we've seen in the past and those in making. I'm out of words to explain the feeling after watching this movie. CGI and Art with the limited budget and canvas, i mean it in this very limited budget is world class. We all study, read, history of something. But very few might have thought if that's the right thing what has happened. This movie thoroughly picturizing how a man's greed and hate towards some one affects the build up of an event and later what we call the history of something. Kammaran will be a unique character in the malayalam industry and man, this is the best movie of Dileep I've seen in years. This movie deserve bigger audience. Highly recommended.
VR (Vikrant Rona) (2022)
Brave attempt
If Vikrant Rona won't mesmerize you visually, nothing will. Movie is quite engaging throughout. Story and screenplay was good. To an extend, making also deserve an appreciation. But could've been done better. Storyline, screenplay, Cast, Cinematography, Art etc are the main positives in this movie. Sudeep has done very well in this movie. For a movie like this, it deserved a great action sequence. Unfortunately, there wasn't. Stunts were just average. The way story is potrayed is good. The makers failed to present the emotional scenes more intense. But in a context; Vikrant Rona is a feast to the eyes. Unique way of approaching cinema always delivers. But yes, could've been much more. Personally, would suggest this as a must watch. The work the entire team has put in every aspect especially cinematography deserves it. Go for it.
Diary (2022)
Yeah, almost there!
Diary is added to one of the serious mystery thrillers in Tamil cinema. The thread here is little complicated, but well potrayed. But it's not perfect or a great one. Flaws like action, unnecessary romantic events of hero and the lead actress, not so funny comedy scenes etc. But even in these negatives, what keeps the movie engaging is the thrilling element in the story. The movie is basically narrated as a rookie inspector of police being assigned to a crime case which happened 16 years ago in the vast areas of ooty. But the unthinkable events happens towards the interval of the movie and can be said that the movie actually picks the real pace from there only. Acting performances felt like average from everyone including arul nidhi. Decent VFX works as well. But still, the story backs all these flaws in the movie. The makers has put the effort not to confuse thr audience in the huge number of events and they were successful in doing that. A good watch. Go for it.
Cobra (2022)
Should've been better
First of all, the wait is not over yet. The Vikram movies I used to enjoy and cherish even after my teenage times brings tears in to the eyes. Cobra should've been much more and engaging that this one. The plot and idea of the movie is having a lot of chances to show a bigger picture. But the makers decided to go for a commercial and masala approach. Instead it should've done in a well organised but structured fashion. But they failed to bring in the emotions, the action sequences were okay but not extraordinary. The thought of the story was a big one. The movie should've focused on better storytelling and characterization. Vikram has done his part really well. Irfan Pathan and Roshan was also spectacular. Apart from these factors, the movie failed to match up the expectations.
Thiruchitrambalam (2022)
Kudos!
So yes, in a few years this has to be one of the best feel good movies from Kollywood. First of all the story is well written. The movie has regular clichés and cliché breaking scenes as well. But we won't notice it while watching the movie. The director has done his best to portray the emotions to the audience. Humor has handled in a nice way. Then Dhanush, yes he does it really good and we all know that. Expect the same in this movie, he won't disappoint you. But the stand out performer is Nitya menen. Thought her character would be sidelined, but it was her character which was highlight of the movie. Overall a good watch, nicely done by all the actors, a well made family entertainer.
Paappan (2022)
Watchable
What makes paappan a good watch when compared to a number of thrillers being dropped to mollywood recently?. Just because the complications they shown in this movie are well explained. There were few thriller movies released in Malayalam in the recent times, but most of them were not able to explain all the links they've put to progress the story. But Paappan does it and does it well. The story line does lacks a powerful base, but the way they narrated and executed is appreciable. A decent and different attempt from Joshiy. Never expected such a calm, organised approach from him. Can't be described as totally engaging, but okay. Yes a Good Watch.
