O Ornitólogo (2016)
I'm still confused
So, you know when you have a really high fever and wake up thinking "Wow that was the weirdest dream I've ever had, WTF", well that's the same sort of feeling that you get when you get to the end of this movie.
There's no rhyme or reason to it at all.
The 2 stars was solely because you see Paul Hamy completely nude. Meh, you need to see positivity in everything.
If you want to purposely confuse yourself, watch this movie.
J'ai tué ma mère (2009)
Annoying character
I have never disliked a character more than I disliked Hubert. Whiny, self-righteous, disrespectful brat. His self entitlement overtakes the majority of the movie and I just mentally switched off. I just wanted to give him a smack for the whole movie.
Anne Dorval did a brilliant job as the mother.
Théo et Hugo dans le même bateau (2016)
Porn movie with a weak story
The first 20 minutes was pure pornography, plain and simple. It went on far too long. So long that I got incredibly bored at watching. I can understand that setting the scene in the first place with them in the sex club, but not 20 minutes.
Francois Nambot had a more realistic performance than Geoffrey Couet. The performance from Francois was particularly realistic when during the moments immediately learning that Geoffrey's character penetrated him without protection.
Geoffrey Couet's performance on the other hand was unbelievable. Theo was supposed to show the he was scared and anxious about the possibility of contracting HIV, and I just didn't sense that from him. It was lacklustre.
It was also nice to learn that the doctor that gave Theo the PEP treatment was not an actress but an actual doctor.
The sex scene was really the only thing with substance in the movie, and even that was boring after the length of it dragged on.
Kater (2016)
Great movie but annoying components
I feel that the movie was executed fairly well. The actors did a brilliant job in my opinion, however, the content of the film just really annoyed me.
The first 30 minutes showed the passion between the 2 characters, and long footage of the cat going about its day. Lots of full frontal nudity. There was even a scene when the main characters danced with raging erections. I'm in no way a prude, but the sex scene when friend Lorenz watched was a little odd, to me.
OK so Stefan did kill the cat, however I don't think he harboured some inner dark hatred for Moses. From how I see it, Moses bit Stefan on the hand and in a knee jerk reaction, horrifyingly, Stefan broke Moses' neck, which I don't even think he meant to. It may happen if you get a fright, he stood up and it was quick. Stefan was clearly horrified and remorseful at his actions, as could be guessed by the wailing from him that seemed to have gone on forever. To me, it just showed Andreas physically and emotionally abusing Stefan over a fairly long period. Stefan, the poor guy even had a breakdown while playing soccer with his mates. Andreas made Stefan see a psychologist. I don't know whether you were supposed to but I felt myself siding with Stefan.
It wasn't until Stefan fell out of a tree and lost one eye did Andreas show some sort of compassion. Even then Andreas treated Stefan with contempt.
It wasn't until the end of the film did you see Andreas give permission to Stefan to kiss him.
It was a great film, but Andreas' weird obsessive grieving process for Moses was just a little too much for me, and I just wanted to scream at the TV for Stefan to leave him. Andreas was a bully and Stefan had low self esteem issues.
L'inconnu du lac (2013)
The reviews confuse me. Did I watch a completely different film?
I've read the glowing reviews, and read the many awards that this film has received and I just do not understand it. It completely confuses me.
This film is devoid of any substance. There is absolutely nothing in the movie that would make it a thriller. If you call it a thriller, it's a thriller without the thrill. It's a drama with very mild drama. There is not enough sex to be a porn, and there is not enough drama to be a drama. It's just nothing.
Sex is sex. I don't have an issue with it. Some of the scenes you think "yeah, OK, I get it, that's enough now".
The whole film I sat thinking "ok something is going to happen soon" but no it never happened. The ending just irritated me like no other film's ending has ever done before. How could someone be so stupid. No one would do that.
The 2 I gave was purely because the setting of Lake of Sainte-Croix was beautiful.
