Tomorrow Never Dies (1997)
Hands down, my favorite Bond movie
I may be biased as Brosnan was my Bond growing up, but this is the perfect Bond film for me.
All of the staple Bond elements are there and are all peak for me:
- A stellar and exciting pre-credits sequence
- A banger theme song by Sheryl Crow, and the one by KD Lang at the end credits is also great
- Fantastic Bond girls in Teri Hatcher and the amazing Michelle Yeoh
- A great villain played by Jonathan Pryce, who's Evil plan has actually aged surprisingly well
- The indestructible henchman Stamper, who is a great foil for Bond
- Absolutely stellar action sequences that from what I can see, were pretty much all done practically
- A fantastic scene with Q and as of 2023, pretty believable and practical gadgets
- Great humor
- Great banter with M and Moneypenny
- the DB5 makes an appearance
... I'm not even sure what else I could even want!
This is one of my most rewatched movies of all time.
I Believe in Santa (2022)
The Absolute Worst
This is without a doubt, the absolute worst movie I've ever seen. Every scene was unintentionally hilarious. The main dude is so delusional, he seems like a serial killer. Also, he wears a vest in nearly every scene. It's 2022.
I also read the main couple are married in real life. They have the chemistry of peanut butter and tuna fish. They should consider divorce in real life.
Every side character is comically awful. It's like the best friend knows that main Santa-believer guy is a serial killer and wants her friend to be murdered. Also, main guy's best friend who's gay seems like his partner. Both in the movie and real life.
Watch drunk with someone who also loves terrible movies.
Midnight Mass (2021)
Mike Flanagan delivers again
If I see Mike Flanagan's name on a project, it's must-see. Even if he's not always scaring me (like Midnight Mass), he provides such insightful, well-developed characters that I'm genuinely sad every time I see one of his stories finish. Flanagan and Ari Aster are saving and progressing horror to be the best it can be.
Blast (1997)
Boring, until the last 10 minutes
The final 10 minutes of this movie are so atrocious abs hilarious, is where all 3 of my points came from for this review. It's the sign on Hauer's wheelchair that gets me every time. Like, why is it there? He could've just said the one liner instead? This whole sequence raises so many hilarious questions, I was entertained for at least an hour after the movie was over. How was Hauer treading water if he was disabled? Lol just hilarious...
Vehicle 19 (2013)
Inane and boring
I'm not even done watching this movie yet, but needed to share how abysmal it is to entertain myself during the last half hour. Don't care about any of the characters, including Paul Walker's. The inside the car gimmick is lame. No creativity or even a decent action sequence. Avoid this trash.
Doomsday (2008)
A Complete Rip Off... that's Fantastic!
Ever since I watched this the first time, I noticed that it stole the best parts of Mad Max, 28 Days Later, and Escape From New York. It mashed these 3 together to make a wild guilty pleasure that I enjoy every time! Rhona Mitra is great, and the action sequences are fun.
Girls Trip (2017)
I didn't laugh once
I can't imagine a more contrived, inane plot with less laughs. The critics reviews for this astound me. The movie making is workmanlike at best (typical of Malcolm D. Lee movies) and there were literally no laughs. At all. I never want anything like this garbage to succeed again. All the actresses should be embarrassed, especially Tiffany Haddish who is extremely annoying, and has been in every subsequent movie I've seen her in.
