The Office (2005–2013)
8/10
A tale of 2 halfs
15 September 2023
So, the first 4, maybe into 5, seasons is top notch. 10/10 stuff, absolutely fantastic. Loads of big jokes, little jokes and everything in between. Being from the UK I thought our The Office was great, but the American one takes it on and does so much more. I cannot emphasise how funny the early seasons are.

However, the problem is that they didn't know when to stop it, apparently, and so an extra 4-5 seasons were done. The downgrade in quality from season 5 is massive. Massive. Hardly found myself laughing and, here, reviewing in the middle of Season 8, it's just a battle and big hard trudge to get to the end of it all. And when a tv show calls on Catherine Tate (when has she ever been funny?) to play a big part in it for the comedy effect, you really know the game is up.

Therefore, a score of 5 is what it deserves. 10/10 for up to end of Season 5 (maybe Season 4) and 0/10 for the rubbish that came after.

So I would highly recommend to watch it, just not all of it.

EDIT - have just completed watching all seasons and I've upped the score from 5 to 8, on the back of a fantastic and memorable Season 9. I can't get away from the poor quality of S6-8, but Season 9 goes back to the very best of the office. There's comedy and a whole lot of sentimentally; it closes the end the show really, really well. Well done folks. That's how to do it.

Air (I) (2023)

Absolutely fantastic story throughout
11 September 2023
This was an unexpected gem of a movie. I don't do basketball and I don't buy expensive trainers, so didn't think it would be for me, albeit I am interested in companies history's and how the my progress (like "The Founder"). The point of view the film takes is very interesting as it is all from the Nike side rather than any / much focus on Jordan and his thoughts. It was a very different way of making the story and, I think because of that, it kept you gripped all throughout. At no point during the movie was there any dull points and each scene was really interesting. Some comedy moments and some real "I hope they do it" ones as well. Would defo recommend to watch, even if you're not really a sports or trainer fan.

Green Zone (2010)

I was hoping for an early night, but this film kept me up
31 May 2023
So I was hoping for an early night - start this film and finish it the next night. However, it was obvious just minutes into the film that probably wasn't going to happen. It starts off with a bang and continues after that. There's a very good mix of action and politics and puts into perspective what (possibly) happened during the aftermath of the Iraq War.

All the actors played their parts and how it all links together was very well done. It's quite a fast moving movie, which means the time goes quickly. They could actually have made the film longer, but even as it is all storylines are completed and at the end of the film you're just thinking "wow, did all that really happen?!"

Not sure how it's only rated around 6.4 on here, as it's a very solid 8 and would recommend.

Didn't know what to expect all the way thrihh
5 February 2022
This has been on my Prime list for ages, but was put off by the low-ish reviews; that was a mistake. On a wet Saturday afternoon I've just watched it and what an intriguing film it is. Honestly didn't quite know what was going to happen until the final few minutes. There may be plot holes noticed by some film buffs (I didn't notice any), but if you're not that one of those I would defo recommend taking time out to watch it - you won't be disappointed.

The Gentlemen (2019)

A fantastic story telling crime movie
27 August 2021
I had high expectations of this movie given the reviews and it did not disappoint at all. The story telling - mainly thoughout by a memorable performance by Hugh Grant - was absolutely top notch. It's a movie that seemed to glide along with twists and turns all the time. I would very much recommend to anyone to watch it.

Point of no Return (II) (2018)

It really is poor; high reviews from Aug'19 must be fake
26 August 2021
I was drawn in by the high score, which now appears to be fake. I'm writing this review with 26 minutes left and am only going to continue on with it as I'm so far in, but I am very close to just turning it off.

The film started ok, but after half an hour the wooden acting, poor dramatic scenes, camera work etc really comes in to play.

If you have 1.5 hours to waste, help yourself to it. But otherwise there are so many other movies out there, just choose any of those and avoid this. It's awful, truly awful.

Despicable characters make the movie
10 April 2021
Only my 2nd review of a film and thought I better speak up as the film is so much better than many others give credit for. I'm based in the UK so not aware of the Guardian issues there may be in the USA, but the film is gripping all through it and I think maybe paints of picture of what could happen, which is very shocking.

The characters are definitely despicable and you can't help but hate Marla etal, however films shouldn't have to have a good person in order for them not to be classed as poor.

Yes there are a couple of slightly far fetched scenes, but nothing that couldn't be put down to "chance". It keeps you on your feet throughout and you just don't know how it's going to end.

It's definitely on my recommendation list to friends and family.

Was that it?
12 January 2021
We started watching this on New Years Eve but stopped after an hour and a bit; with myself watching the rest of it today. That says a lot on it's own.

The photography and characters are good, but the film is one big meandering slow walk to 5 minutes of action at the end. How all the characters lives entwine is clever and there are quirks through the movie, but for a 2.5 hour film not a great deal actually happens. Could have easily had an hour cut off and wouldn't have made a difference.

Overall the film is a big disappointment that simply doesn't deliver, even with all the big names in it.
