Nihon Chinbotsu 2020 (2020)
Disappointed
MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD!
I was very excited to watch this show and the trailer was very promising. The first episode was good and it shows the destruction and panic earthquakes can cause. The art isn't horrible as some reviewers complain about, but what bothered me was the lack of realistic emotions from the characters - especially when the dad dies and the family barely reacts to it. We get maybe 20 seconds of the daughter and the mom screaming at each other and crying, but after that, the dad seems to be completely forgotten until episode 5 where the mom finally cries but the moment is ruined by the happy music (a lot of the music is so misplaced and don't fit the situation at all). The little brother and other characters speak English for no reason quite often which I found was distracting and inappropriate for the situation. On top of all this is that everyone is happy and having fun throughout the series as if there wasn't a major disaster going on.
Realistically, the characters decisions are illogical, like digging for yams when there's a big DANGER sign and deciding not to investigate further before jumping the fence, the sister not wanting her HUNGRY younger brother to accept a wrapped candy bar from a stranger who just saved her from poisonous gas, them being indifferent to a HUGE FIELD OF MARIJUANA.
There are also a lot of foreigners being portrayed as the good guys while the Japanese are being portrayed as the bad guys. While diversity is good, this anime does it badly by basically portraying the Japanese as "evil".
The random cult party and festival was so out of place it felt like I wasn't watching a disaster anime at all, and I couldn't help but laugh when the cult child's head got smashed in by a piece of concrete. It was all so bizarre. Not to mention the way out of place rap part in episode 9...
The idea for this anime was great but it was so poorly executed that I'm not sure if it's satire or not. I'm giving it three stars because I enjoyed the first episode, but the rest is a mess with one character dying basically every episode for no reason except shock value. If you do watch this, it's only worth watching the first and last episode.
Jane Wants a Boyfriend (2015)
Very relatable
As a female living with Asperger's I can easily relate to Jane's situation. This movie was beautifully made and I cried more than once. The portrayal of Aspergers/Autism is very well done but you always have to have in mind that everyone with autism is different and can experience different difficulties with life. For me though, it was very easy to identify with Jane. I sat through the whole movie hoping that Jack and Jane would get together and I cried so much when she finally found love.
Wallander: Innan frosten (2005)
A great movie
Cults have always been a fun topic in a movie, and it was well executed in this one. The Wallander movies have always been great, and so have the books. It gives off a creepy atmosphere but it also intrigues. The casting is great as usual. Being interested in true crime, it really excited me when they had Jonestown featured in the movie, as well as its history. The bad part was that they featured a "survivor" of the massacre and that it was a Swede.
Bron/Broen: Avsnitt 1 (2013)
A good start of season 2
We get a good old flashback of the last season and then we go straight back to Saga and her odd self. The plot of a plague spreading is really interesting and is something that scares me. Between all the awful deaths we get some good humor.
The friend relationship between Saga and Martin bored me out very quickly and I wanted to see more about the antagonists and their thinking and what they were going to do next. I was especially intrigued by the guy with a little brother since he's taking a big risk doing what he is doing. It's odd that he is willing to risk his brother becoming a full-on orphan.
