Well I watched Prey (2022) Hulu Exclusive movie. Set 300 years before the Events of Predator (1987)
I'd like to preface this by saying the Predator Creature is my all time Favorite movie monster. I love the associated lore, design, and films except Predator (2018). It's a horrible insult to the franchise.
Prey is set in the Comanche Nation in the 1700s. It features an all native cast except the French characters. The crew also had many Indigenous people. The natives in this film never feel like caricatures and multiple articles have said that it was quite accurate to the time.
I loved this movie. It's on par with the original. I was so hyped for this film. And I am happy to say I was not disappointed. It's visually stunning with some of the most interesting shots I've seen in a Predator film. Close-ups on bugs crawling on its feet while cloaked, it running through a field. I love the way this movie is shot. The acting is great but there is a lot of physical acting compared to lines. Naru is a good character despite the reviews I've read (which obviously don't know much about native culture). "She has medicine in a pouch?" Yes, women of tribes had medicinal herbs. "She just knows how to make a rope!" Yes, because tribes made their own rope. It was a basic skill most natives would have known.
*SPOILERS SECTION** They also take offense to the idea she could take out a Predator. They were all like "Sorry Arnie." I'd like to point out that the first film very clearly shows that all of Arnold's strength, size, and technology are wasted on the Predator. He is larger and stronger than him. What beats the creature is intelligence. Prey does this in spades, having the main character learn aspects of the creature as the film progresses. This is also a more primal creature, one not as sophisticated as its predecessor. The Creature was performed beautifully by Dane DiLiegro. In this, it is depicted as a more primitive version of the creature. A clan of the Hunters called the Feral. Do I think there could have been more back and forth in the final fight. Yes but I overall love it.
