The Good Doctor (2017)
Uh no?
The shows starts off well-enough, but as it progresses, it becomes immensely medically inaccurate. With a majority of the episodes entwined in political drama. From doctors visiting patients houses unannounced (Huge no-no) to the same doctors trying to push un-necessary medical surgeries on a child through manipulation of the parents. (Castration episode)
It's framed as if every doctor reads all types of x-rays, ultrasounds, bone scans, MRI, PET, angiograms, etc. Along with apparently being child therapists. When in reality, doctors are primarily specialized in specific fields. With basic knowledge of medical procedure, the show is a 5/10 for the first 12 episodes. After that, the show becomes a high school political drama... with a sprinkle of medical throw in.
Deception (2018)
What
Easily one of the worst shows I have ever watched. The first episode is riddled with oddities and the writing for a lot of the actors is... just bad.
The main magician somehow just walks right onto an active Fbi investigation scene and they just let him stay there.
A cartel member is between the Fbi and the main character, get's shot, blood shoots out (meaning a bullet went through), and the bullet just doesn't exist anymore?
Magician comically outruns bullets being fired from a full-auto handgun. Somehow.
It's wildly cheesy. Main Fbi woman gets feelings for quirky, off-the-books guy. Brother framed by a rival magician. Big mean Fbi boss doesn't like the way things are done. It's like the show was written by a high-school grad who took one creative writing class over a decade ago.
Velma (2023)
Run.
*Edit: Episode 4 involves the town deciding which 15-year-old girl (including the 2 dead ones) is the "hottest."*
It's as if a show was all about Amber from "invincible." Completely unlikeable and repulsive. All the characters feel like they're designed to be hated. Race jokes, sex jokes. Yeah. That's the whole show. It's as if someone with zero ideas of anything humorous tried to be funny. This is the first time that I have ever felt like a show actually deserved less than a 1. It is ultimately and completely unwatchable. Unless you're a fan of having to repress-vomit. I get what they were aiming for. An adult oriented spin off of a beloved classic, but the issue is the humor. It would work if their was even a single moment that made sense and wasn't just race/sexual related with no reason toward the layout of the story.
Gravity (2013)
I feel like I have shards of glass in my ears.
For the first 20 minutes, Sandra Bullocks' character is doing nothing but hysterically screaming 24/7. She then proceeds to somehow know absolutely nothing about being in space. How she got sent, much less how she was allowed to do a space walk, I will never know. Though the biggest plot hole in this entire movie is the space debris. Every hour and a half it passes just to conveniently destroy every shred of matter, except for whatever the main character is in/or attached to. Interesting concept, but it sucked.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
Worthless side character holds this film back
The majority of this movie is pretty fantastic. Interesting plot, dynamic characters, action. The only thing holding it back is America Chavez. They finally add a prominent Latina character to marvel, just to have her be an annoyance. It's a typical story of "I can't control my powers, WAIT! I could alllll along." Which by itself would have been bearable, but then Disney had to throw in the stupidest propaganda lines. Was her having 2 moms central or important to the story? Nope. Was her being lgbtq? Nope. Her explaining how socialism is the best? Nada. Well, maybe her backstory works. Nope, no backstory. She a lesbian with two moms and unlimited power, yup that's it. It makes her character feel kind of worthless and since she is a main character of this movie, it holds the entire film back.
Dexter: New Blood (2021)
Great, until the last episode. Plot holes up the ...
So... This was good and bad. I really did enjoy the story, seeing Harrison as a teen, Dexter's new life, but my lord does this feel like a tumblr fan fiction. Inconsistencies galore that rival even game of thrones. By the end, I was questioning if the only reason showtime brought Dexter back was to go "Yup, killing is a no-no". They ignore so much, of what made the first showing of Dexter great. Not to mention they call a character a "cis white male" like 5 times. Semi-Spoilers ahead: The main officer just happens to find info that the FBI from the original dexter didn't? Needle marks in all the dead bodies? And who found ketamine in them? Not only was that never in ANY other kills, but they even explained that dexter used M99 for 8 seasons. Harrison also goes from "Enjoying killing" to "No dad. Killing bad." in 15 minutes of the last episode. We now have 2 failed Dexter "endings" in a row.
The Darkest Minds (2018)
What...
Wow, is this movie riddled with more plot holes than sunk the titanic or what? The "main characters" romance appears out of thin air 5 minutes into them meeting and they're madly in love. It was forced and rushed to all heck. Ruby touches people and can see things that they've done, but throughout 25 minutes of her touching and training with the main villain, she see's nothing. She constantly talks about how she can't control her powers while actively using them. She made a bounty hunter walk into a forest, to die, by putting thoughts into her head. Then 5 minutes later says she can't put thoughts in peoples heads. In the final fight scene, the helicopter pilot just happens to make eye contact with Ruby, by zooming in through a binocular, from a mile in the air... While piloting the ship? Strictly so they could have a "running away from explosions" scene. Not once, but twice. The only good parts in the entire movie revolved around Zu and Chubs. I've watched a documentary on cheese that was less cheesy and better written than this. Skip at all costs.
Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari (2019)
Very well put together.
Great anime. Easily an 8 at the worst. Given a 10 because of the rough situations it adds. Some people seem to give shield hero low scores due to them not being able to handle the sensitive subjects thrown in. (Slavery, Me-too crybabies, etc.) The only issue I've had is sometimes Naosumi can seem like a real jerk but that's easy enough to push past. The characters are very well written and the animations are top-notch. The story is well put together and very easy to get lost in making this a great binge anime. I had put off watching it and like some other animes (Demon Slayer) I greatly regret not starting it sooner.
