Supernatural: Carry On (2020)
I LOVED this ending!! Like, crazy loved it.
SPOILERS!!
I have finally finished SPN. I simply do not understand why so many people didn't like this ending!
I think this ending gave our boys everything I could have asked for. In the previous episode, 19, they refused to give up and lay down, and as a result, they defeated a tyrannical God and literally saved the entire world, finally gaining their own freedom in the process.
Then they got to live a relatively ordinary life, while still hunting, during that montage in the bunker. I love that at last we got a peek into the regular, domestic life of the boys, cooking, doing laundry, cleaning weapons. Fantastic.
And there's absolutely no saying how long they got to live that life. We only saw the last day of it, but It could have been a week or it could have been five years. The writers left it open for interpretation, which I love.
Then Dean got to go down swinging and saving people, which is what he always wanted. The boys got to say a final, earthly good bye, having the time to share cherished words of love and encouragement.
Sam got to live a life; even if he had to live it with some heart ache. (An actual big part of ordinary life, really.) But he got to get married, (I choose to believe that was Eileen in the blurry background, but you can interpret it to be whomever you choose.) He got to have a son and be a Dad, present and loving in his son's life. And the Winchester name will live on.
And finally the boys get to spend eternity together in the heaven they deserve, where they can be with all the other people they love and miss, including Cas, I might add. Since Bobby says that Cas helped Jack make a new, better heaven that means that Cas is likely free from the empty. Maybe even living in some part of heaven and able to come and spend time with the boys.
They're in a place that can give them every happiness they were ever denied on earth, every comfort, or provide them with any challenge they could want, literally whatever their hearts desire.
I just don't see how that ending could have been better.
I LOVED this completely. It was definitely everything I wanted in a series finale.
V-Wars (2019)
I don't get the negative reviews.
So, I've only watched the first two episodes, but I really liked them. The first episode was so good, I HAD to watch the second even though it was like five in the morning. The vampires are scary as hell and the episodes I've watched have great atmosphere and suspense.
I will admit that some of the acting and some of the dialogue isn't 100%. Not a fan of the acting from the woman reporter and so far her male assistant seems to be there just so she isn't talking to herself. But these are very small problems that in no way detracted from the shows or made me want to stop watching it.
I think the two leads, Ian Somerhalder and Adrian Holmes are fantastic and I feel like Ian's chemistry with the kid (a good young actor) who plays his son is wonderful.
With all the truly garbage TV out there, it makes me very sad that this enjoyable show has been cancelled. I hope a tv studio with more brains picks it up. I hate when they cancel shows on a cliffhanger!! 😫😠
Unbelievable (2019)
Unbelievable lives up to its title in the best possible way!
This series is incredible!! So fantastically acted, written, and directed throughout every episode. The subtlety and gentleness used throughout the series is superb. Every scene is important, not a minute of screen time is wasted.
It's achingly heartbreaking, but never maudlin. It depicts the graphic reality of the sexual assaults without ever being exploitative. Truly an amazing achievement.
I don't want to give too much away, but the juxtaposition of the processing scenes are wonderful! In episode 1 you see the processing of a rape victim through the system, and later a rapist is processed through the prison system and the duality is perfectly executed. You feel a sense of justice that he's going through at least SOME of the same indignities she had to suffer through.
Brilliant. Recommended a hundred times over!
A Kid Like Jake (2018)
Incredible Acting and True to life Dialogue
I loved this film. It offers no answers, just a discussion and a snapshot of what life for the parents of a non-gender-conforming child must be like. Both parents (and all the adults in Jake's life actually) are trying their hardest to do what is best for him. They all clearly love him and want him to be happy.
The dialogue in this film is perfect, everything feels natural and organic; it's as though, you're truly watching these moments unfold on a hidden camera. The scenes are acted beautifully, with truth and authenticity.
Those reviewers claiming that Jim Parsons is limited in his ability to play a straight character are showing their own bias. This character is specifically shown as a gentle man, one who does not himself conform to some "macho" stereotype. He plays the character wonderfully with subtlety and ease. I also felt the chemistry between him and Claire Danes was great. It is established very early on how much they love each other and what great friends they are as well; which becomes increasingly important as you watch them struggle with the challenges the situation brings to their marriage. I was genuinely routing for them.
I only took one star off because there is a bit of odd editing in the first 15-20 minutes of the film. But that resolves itself and the pacing becomes another helpful device in this incredibly well told story.
I highly recommend this film!!
Insatiable (2018)
Absolutely awful!!!
I can not believe so many people enjoyed this show. It's horribly tasteless and paints young women who accuse men of molestation as nothing but liars and sexed up hussies preying on a poor middle-aged white man. It's completely garbage.
But all poor taste aside, the show is NOT funny. The jokes are wooden and stupid. They're things twelve-year-old boys might laugh at - "Ha ha!! They said anal!! It's a gala for anal cancer. Get it?! Anal!! They said anal cancer!! Isn't that SOOO funny?!" Wow!! What incredible wit these writers have!! Ugh!!
In conclusion, for the love of God, never, ever watch this show. Save yourself the hour! It's precious time you'll never get back.
