Heels (2016)
LA looks like crap
Slow paced, lots of shots of urban LA. I was planning a visit to Los Angeles but changed my mind after watching this movie. It's paced pretty slow, did I say that already. However, if you are able to get past the 60 minute mark, it gets more interesting. The last 15 minutes are the pay off.
Rapture (2019)
Krafty Kristians
Foiled again! This is the second time in a month I got pulled in by special effects for a disaster event movie moving into an apocalyptic nightmare. Curse my Saturday night love of dystopian landscapes. So I was about 2/3rds of the way invested when the tide turned and it all went christian in an effort to spur my very own come to Jehovah moment, in lieu of the absence of that age old hymn, "Just As I Am." The scene, taking the bible off the nightstand of the deathbed, did sound a few bells and whistles, but I chocked it up to dramatic schmaltz at the directors discretion. Up until the 2/3rds point I always thought a band of angels coming after me was a good thing. According to this movie, it ain't. It gives slain in the spirit a very smoldering meaning, and effect. SO, had I known before hand what exactly was waiting for me at the end of the rabbit hole, I would have given it a pass for something a little, WHAT AM I SAYING, a lot less bible belty.
The Missing Link (2018)
Familiar gay stereotypes; but cute
Hunky guy stumbles into a new tribe. The girls all want him, the head guy doesn't. There's just something different about him that no one can quite put their finger on. He give's everybody a make over, old relationships are renewed. And in the end he leaves the tribe better than they were before.
It was familiar because of all the predictable running jokes, which made it perfect lala entertainment getting ready for slumberland. Also the gay dude has a really bangin body, which is probably why you are going to watch this too.
Stained Glass Rainbows (2015)
Soft sell on avoiding the ticket to hell
All was well as I watched this movie up until about half-way through. It was at that point a good number of the people who shared their coming out stories at the beginning began to also share the addendum to their life. You love them for coming out and then you're aghast at the torment that forced them back into organized religion, with forevermore denying themselves that sexual part of their nature. Very sad.
Not everyone who shared their coming out story was convinced their God given nature was sinful, but none had embraced it as a blessing. Even the Episcopal pastor, who embraced her sexuality, did not present it as anything other than an eccentric personal quirk. Most saw it only as a curse with the quandary how to get into the kingdom of God with all the pieces of oneself intact.
Rule of thumb: if I see a picture put out by Paladin Studios, keep on walking.
