The Sacrifice Game (2023)
Good intentions, poor execution
I like the general concept of this movie and I appreciate the directors' inspirations and intentions. Unfortunately, the movie itself is very underwhelming in its totality. Some of the acting is goofy in a way that isn't really "fun" or enjoyable, and the 1970s setting isn't very relevant or noticeable. I went into this movie expecting to have some fun, and I was ultimately let down by the dull edge the whole movie has. The plot is undeniably messy, the villains are cartoonish, you don't really root for anybody in the story, and the final result feels unearned. There's a lot of mediocre horror movies I'd say are still worth watching; this isn't one of them sadly. Skip.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)
Cookie-cutter, heartless "horror" film
Pop-culture witty humor has absolutely no place in a Texas Chainsaw Massacre film. The plot (if you can call it that) has absolutely nothing to do with any of the films and you could realistically replace Leatherface with any blank face killer. You actively WANT all of the characters to die, which obviously removes any chance of tension or suspense. Some people will tell you it's "fun" or "has good kills" but I'm not sure if they watched the same movie as I did, it's a snooze fest start to finish. I highly recommend this movie to everyone who cares about the film industry so they can witness exactly what horror fans do not want.
The Dark and the Wicked (2020)
No story, no scares, bad acting.
I don't review many movies, but when I see a movie with such promising reviews and hype, I feel the need to warn people. This movie was comically bad. Bad acting, bad plot (if any), no real scares (all dream scenes and ghost scenes). A sincerely boring, predictable movie.
The Pale Door (2020)
Boring movie with an unlikeable main character
Not too much for me to say one way or the other with this one. 90% of the movie is an uninspired snooze fest, and 10% (no spoilers but the only action scene) is actually pretty fun and enjoyable. I'm always surprised when movies like this aren't fun to watch; they have these whacky plots, goofy dialogue, silly characters etc etc yet simply aren't a fun watch. I respect any Shudder movie due to the passion but this one falls very flat
The Invisible Man (2020)
From someone who was excited to see this
This movie is an absolute train wreck when it comes to plot structure and plausibility. I will leave this spoiler-free as a warning to people who are debating watching it, but the spoilers are ultimately what makes this movie so silly. Without spoilers though; the movie makes ZERO sense. While the acting is great for what they are all given, the plot and script are so silly and laughable that it makes the intensely serious acting equally laughable. Characters have ZERO common sense, public cameras don't exist, dialogue is borderline preschool, and the plot is as if a 15 year old wrote it (a lot of moments that anybody above 20 would say "okay thats not how this works"). I DO NOT recommend this movie to anyone. Brutal
Black Panther (2018)
Its an incredibly flat movie
I could tell by the early reviews and trailers that this was not going to be one of my favorite MCU movies, but I expected it to at least be a fun, enjoyable movie. T'Challa is so dull and boring in this after being the BEST part of Civil War. The CGI is inexcusably bad in multiple scenes, and the jokes fall as flat as can be. Yet the worst part of the ENTIRE movie for me was the villain, Killmonger. When I tell you that this character was beyond cringe-inducing in every single scene, I am not exaggerating. I am a Michael B. Jordan fan, but this was brutal to watch. The dialogue was laughably corny and predictable, and the execution of said dialogue was equally corny and rough. I did not enjoy a single scene in this entire movie, and there is not one MCU movie I want to watch again less than this..(okay maybe Hulk).
