The A-Team (2010)
Fun with some memorable moments
This film is not a classic. But still highly enjoyable. I don't know what other people who have reviewed were expecting.... Shakespeare? Spielberg? Scorsese?
It's none of them. What it is a nod to the original while establishing something newI. It has fun moments and tight plot. Its shame they didn't make more.
Star Trek: Discovery: That Hope Is You, Part 2 (2021)
Cross between a bad movie and a poor episode
This episode concludes season 3 which has had two plot lines: the burn and the emerald chain. Both plots struggle on their own in the vastness of this unexplored and untethered future. So it's little wonder that when these two plots conclude in the same episode the result is somewhat unsatisfying.
The Burn conclusion feels like a skip me episode from TNG's past. While the Emerald Chain finale is more like something from TNG movie - and not a good one.
Once again the focus is on Michael Burnham to save the day and no matter what she does (disobey orders, betray people, lie, kill, steal) she is in the 'right".
This season has been the poorest of the 3 so far. It has felt very lost in the vastness of an unknown future and with too much changed from what we know of the 23rd / 24th century its difficult to get into or even care.
The Emoji Movie (2017)
Better than I expected
Maybe it's a symptom of lockdown, but watch a film as shallow and empty as this and find still find some joy.
The film is not subtle nor smart in anyway. Its product placement is in your face and the characters are 1 dimensional. It is clear that people thought the premise was enough to make the film work and they didn't need to bother with plot, drama or decent jokes.
But i still found it just about watchable, which is probably due to the amount of utter rubbish I have already watched in the last year.
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (2012)
Fast paced and Fun
Okay I have seen some terrible movies recently. So when I watched this I wasn't expecting much. But was nicely surprised.
Plots moves fast and there is enough to entertain. Acting is poor and the CGI isnt great ( I took that as a homage to the 1950's movie) Are they better movies definitely. But this isn't the worse.
Doctor Who: Revolution of the Daleks (2021)
Fun but flawed
Love a good Dale story and this is a good 13th story. Full of fun dialogue and plot that works.
That bring said there's a lot more dialogue and plot that doesn't (like a guy going all the way to Japan with a Dalek hidden under his jacket yet it obvious wasn't there in some scenes and then appeared)
The emotions also run hollow. But maybe I am just a fan of the old style of show. I just remember a time when I thought Dr who was the best show on TV. This sadly isn't it and after 2 seasons I have no hope for the future.
But enjoy a festive romp all the same. Ot probably isn't gonna get any better.
Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey (2020)
It's a musical but not much more
All the right ingredients but poorly executed. Too many songs not enough imagination
Doctor Who: The Timeless Children (2020)
MASTER of none
I found this episode boring....yes boring. Forget the idea that the doctor is some sort of Timelord Prime - which is nonsense if you ask me its the new Master I cant stand....was a pantomime damn not available? Bring back the liquorice man from the 80s at least you knew he was a joke. This version of the MASTER is so poorly written and acted (a little bit like the rest of the series).
A sign of how bad this has been is that Bradley Walsh and Mandip Gill are the best actors in the show. I'm sure the others are very good in other things but this is just terrible.
Spider-Man 3 (2007)
Blows Hot and Cold but leaves you wanting a jumper
This film is brilliant in parts. It deals with the dark side of spiderman and has a conclusion to the green goblin trilogy but man the script is terrible and the editing makes the film feel like you've missed alot scenes. However 'darkside' Tobey Maguire is hilariously cringeworthy and awesome at the same time.
Doctor Who: Fugitive of the Judoon (2020)
Best 13th Doctor story yet
Its chalk and cheese. With two writers writing the episode it definitely showed.on the one hand you have a brilliant Judoon story ( who would have that was possible) and then you have captain jack whose whole purpose is move the companions out of the way of the story.
Very good twists...hope they provide decent answers unlike the Moffat years. But still a great episode
Doctor Who: The Hungry Earth (2010)
Most ridiculous ending to Dr Who Ever
The Episode takes a welcome slow tense pace. But it feels like editor suddenly realised they needed more than one episode when they put it all together as the episode just ends....
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
Not as bad as people are saying, but.....
I enjoyed the film as a fan of the movies. However there are parts that are a let down and soulless. However last jedi it is not so rejoice all you TLJ haters as this movie is better.
