Jacob's Ladder (2019)
This is like a bad joke.
The film is simply bad - at any level - acting, directing, script, production design. Not to mention the fact it should be a remake of an all time classic but it is something like a poor attempt at best;
On the positive side I hope Hollywood will stop making remake after remake of good films and will start financing more independent new writers and directors. Like all the great independent stuff from 1980s and 1990s - like the first films of Sam Raimi, Christopher Nolan, Quentin Tarantino, etc.
Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017)
The Worst SW Film
What bothers me most is how much did they pay to the so called "critics" to write such a positive reviews? This film has more negative parts than positive. That simply makes is unfit to be part of Star Wars. A lot of stupid moments (such as the bombers in space, the Lea scene in space, the slo-mo battle and many more). Combining these with unappropriated humor, new characters that were completely unnecessary and Luke's idiotic story line, we get some pretty messy film. The director is miles away from working on such important franchises and big budget Si-Fi films (actually where is the science in this episode?). It is one thing to work on independent and medium budgeted films such as Looper and Brick and it is completely different story to direct Star Wars with 250,000,000 million budget and billions of fans expecting at least an average result. Someone much more experienced and competent should work on the franchise in future - someone like JJ, Nolan, Cuaron, etc. - not this dilettante.
5/10
Sadilishteto (2014)
One of the best Bulgarian films since 1989
The Judgment is a very good cinematic experience. Very well written and expertly directed by one of the best Bulgarian directors nowadays. The cast is excellent. Every aspect of the film is very well executed - music, camera work, editing, make up and sound FX - you just feel that you are part of the story.
The style is dark, but everything is presented in the wright way. There is enough excitement and suspense moments. Very strong dialogues and character performances.
A must watch - don't miss it.
Voevoda (2017)
Not that bad film
I liked the film in general. It is definitely not the best Bulgarian film in the past few years, but it is good enough. The camera work is indeed a bit strange in some scenes, but at the end it is more important what the story is all about and the characters involved in it.
I liked the cast and the pace of the film. The balance between the drama and the adventure is very good. Music and effects are also descent.
The most important part is that modern Bulgarian cinema is getting better and better these days, most probably because they don't count that much on government financing anymore and more and more films are being produced every year.
Benzin (2017)
Not the worst film - actually a decent one.
The film is not that bad. The plot is not the most original one and as already mentioned by other users both of the main actresses have problems with pronouncing some of the letters - especially "R". The car action scenes are not the best, but I admire them for not using any CGI. What I don't like is the product placement, or actually the way it is presented - instead of car oriented stuff such as oils, types of fuel, tires, rims, or even some type of alcohol, we see some idiotic adds of coffee, ice cream, Telecom operator and Euro football.
The film is not an expensive one and I liked it because it is a long way from the Fast&Furious franchise. If they plan to have a second installment, they can add some better actresses and less coffee adds.
6/10 - not bad piece of Bulgarian cinema. I hope that more domestic action films will be produced in future.
Overdrive (2017)
Not a Fast&Furious film
I saw this film by chance in my local cinema. To begin with, it is nothing like some of the best actions from European creators, such as Taken, District B13, Transporter, etc.
The action is good enough, with a couple of silly moments. The leads are handsome, but they don't give the performance of their lifetime. Some good funny moments, very beautiful landscapes from France, stereotypical villains and very rare and exotic cars. The plot is also not very original and the directing is nothing special - it has no special vibes like the action/criminal films by Luc Besson, Pierre Morel or Olivier Marchal.
It is a "popcorn movie" not worse than the most of the recent films that stars like Nicholas Cage, Bruce Willis, Val Kilmer and even Robert DeNiro are part off. I believe that Scott Eastwood is getting better and better in acting, he just needs some more challenging roles, not just handsome guy for average actions and romantic films.
6,5/10 in order to stimulate more the European film creators and young actors.
