Alexa & Katie (2018–2020)
8/10
As of Episode 4, my children and I love this show!
29 March 2018
While not ever scene is acted to its very best (I assume due to the struggle of the serious of the content while trying to juggle in the humor as teenage actors), the writing doesn't always go for the obvious formulaic joke. This fact itself is very refreshing, even if the formulaic joke might be funnier at times (but also boring over all if you can always predict them).

While Alexa and Katie are by far our favorite characters, my children and I cannot help but giggle at Alexa's brother in the first few episodes essentially being a modern teenage Maui from "Moana"... well personality-wise anyway.

The only problem we have with the show is that at least one certain episode we've seen so far interrupting ongoing stories in the arch, completely ignoring them. "Ungroundable" completely disrupted the arch as if it were one of those "out of place" "Dragon Ball Z" movies which are best ignored for cannon. I can only hope that this trend does not continue. I will note that it was a nice surprise to find that while "Picture Day" interrupts "The Play, Part 1" and "The Play, Part 2" that it carries the arch with it instead of disrupting. We'll see how it goes. I would hate it if this were the only reason people end up not pushing for a second season.

A Bollywood Take on Superhero Films
27 April 2013
Warning: Spoilers
When it comes to Superhero films, it's hard to be unique. That being said, compared to other rehashed stories, this one at least felt genuine. The story of a man with no goal in life, no path to take; falling in love with a woman sets in motion a change that makes him a hero... And he even failed at that at first. Not to mention that he DOESN'T get the girl at the end.

Granted, over the top villain, hero wins in the end, damsel in distress, all cliché. But the same can be said for ALL superhero movies. And while I am no fan of oddly placed music numbers, that is often the Bollywood tradition and style; much as Americans expect over the top antics in comedies thanks to actors like Adam Sandler, Jim Carry and Will Ferrel.

Once you put the clichés aside, the story here is as honest as a child giving chocolates to a crush and being rejected. The acting is well done (aside from the villain's lines in the last fight scene), and the camera work was superb.

If you like superhero movies, and you enjoy or at least don't mind Bollywood style, this is a movie I would recommend. Although, if there is a dubbed in English version, ignore it, dubbing never seems to do foreign films justice these days. Your opinions may be skewed just due to that.

An Independent Movie that Surpasses Mainstream in more than just writing
30 October 2012
While I may watch the occasional sitcom, I am not normally a comedy movie type person. That being said, I will get a copy of "Firefall: An Epic Family Adventure" once it finally comes out on DVD.

I was happily impressed with "Firefall: An Epic Family Adventure," as I had seen some previews and was actually expecting it to be the typical over-hyped independent movie that tried too hard, overly filled with crud humor and looked like it was filmed by a novice, and almost didn't go to see the movie. I am SO GLAD that I didn't listen to myself.

While, I do feel that one potty joke in particular lasted FAR too long (could easily have been half the length and still felt too long; you'll understand what I mean when you see it), the rest of the potty humor was generally well timed and didn't try to push the shock level.

If you enjoy comedies, feel good movies, and good characterization with great writing; you will enjoy this movie that one could essentially call, a grown-up's version of a family movie (as in designed for the whole family but that a parent can enjoy more than say a young child would, bucking the trend).

Huh, since when does illegally stealing video, making your own words and posting it on youtube count as film making?
5 October 2011
Huh, since when does illegally stealing video, making your own words and posting it on youtube count as film making? That literally is all that they did. This should be taken OFF of IMDb immediately! I am surprised that these people haven't already been in court for loads of lawsuits, especially after posting their real names.

Seriously... If this is all it takes to be considered "film makers," I'll just grab a classic, say, Disney's "Alice in Wonderland," cut it down, and re-record my own script making it sound like a soft core porn. I wonder how long it would be until people start claiming I made a wonderful movie? Guess when? NEVER, because if I did that, I DIDN'T MAKE IT!

Has potential, hope it lives up to it
13 June 2011
This show, has a lot of potential, that for the moment they are not living up to. The writers are trying too hard, the actors are trying to hard, and the audience is trying to hard to laugh at forced jokes.

You can tell that the actors don't find the sketches as funny as the writers think that they are. Hopefully they will take a page out of the SNL and All That book and let the actors contribute far more to the writing than the show is currently doing. After all, THEY ARE THEIR TARGET AUDIENCE, not the writers.

Sonny With A Chance, although started off rough, it started becoming a really decent show. Considering they have generally the same writers and pretty much the same cast, there is a pretty good chance that the show will improve.

I wish them all the best of luck for the potential I see for the show.

Decent show
12 June 2011
I really enjoy watching new episodes of this show (although the re-runs are done to death to where I am sick of watching it).

This is not one of those shows that will ever be anyone's "all time favorites," like the Cosby Show, Family Matters, Dick Van Dyke, etc. But it is a show that one can sit there and just have fun with, as you can tell that the cast is having fun with their roles. No one takes their characters too seriously, and have no fun spoofing even their own character's personalities.

It's a show to watch with the family, a show that a parent can be comfortable with their children watching the re-runs while they are making dinner, (unlike certain episodes of similarly targeted shows such as Hanna Montana and iCarly).

Although, I would recommend that Disney limit the amount of re-runs they play of this show, so that they don't continue to burn out their audience.

The middle road of the responses...
12 September 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Look, I agree with most of the previous comments on this series. But please use some common sense. Yes, if you go by the idea that the Original WESTERN 'Transformers' series is the CORRECT, PERFECT series (that can't stand up to some differences), you are going to think something is really screwed up when watching this series. But you need to realize that for the Japanese audience, translations and rewriting were done with the first saga. Hence, part of the reason the storyline is different. Now with that in mind I continue. Think of the last three episodes of the original U.S. series as one of those pulled out movie like things, the way DBZ did with the movies that don't actually fit into the story line at all. If you ignore those three episodes (which fixes the fact that Daniel doesn't transform into Arcee's head, and no one has ever met the Headmasters) the story line does make much more sense. Plus keep in mind that even if you get a dubbed version (I found all three later series on an Internet auction site, dubbed really well on multiple DVD's), the writers didn't rewrite the storyline, only the lines into English. So pardon them if it doesn't fit your idea of the perfect series because many ideas and even jokes don't translate well from one culture to another. In my opinion (not that it would ever happen, but feel free to prove me wrong C.N.) they should bring all of these series over to the U.S. on cartoon network, re-written and re-dubbed for a limited run on Toonamie or Adult Swim. I think it would play really well in a block with 'Big O', 'Full Metal Alchemist' and 'Cowboy Beebop'. (especially around the time that the live action movie comes out)
