Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father (2008)
I Will Never Forget This Film
It's been about 4 years since I first watched this documentary, and I can honestly say that it still haunts me to this day. The unfolding of this story is so impactful. So raw. So heartbreaking.
Do yourself a favor and DO NOT look up anything about this case before or during your watch.
Paradise Lost has always been my favorite documentary series of all time. But this one is either tied for first or a very, very close second.
This is a truly devastating documentary all around, but their story is so incredibly important for the world to know. I promise, this documentary and story will stick with you for the rest of your life.
Where the Crawdads Sing (2022)
I Wish They Made This Into a Limited Series
PLEASE DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW WHO THE MURDERER IS!
As someone who's read the book, I thought the movie did an exceptional job of sticking to Delia Owens's words. And I absolutely loved the movie. But like they always say, the book is always better than the movie.
There was so much more pain and loneliness and sorrow in the book chapters about her life growing up. So much hard work she had to put into survival. So much heartache when Tate left her.
Her pure innocence throughout the book was overwhelmingly evident. I wish that they movie had more time to build up the audience to feeling the same innocence and sadness I felt for her. I wish they gave us more time with her interactions with Jumpin' and Mabel. I wish they gave us more time with her and the seagulls.
The book reallllly created such a shield around Kya in a way that I would have NEVER guessed she did it. Reading the last page of the book and finding out that twist was a feeling I never saw coming.
That's why I wish this could have been a limited series. More build up around her growing up. More moments of her muteness and learning how to better socialize/interact with the very few people who truly loved her.
Overall, I did love it. Just wanted so much more screen time of it!
