When something like Atlantis showing their existence to humans and sharing all of their technology in any way they can help human kind happens in your movie, then of course I'm going to love it. Narration says humans and Atlanteans are working together to solve any climate crisis. Not that I'm big into all that stuff, however, the idea of it was a positive theme that I was happy to see.
The movie and actors seem very vulnerable in a lot of their performances with these portrayals of these characters with family members being endangered and the emotions that would come with that. Sometimes it makes for a remarkable scene you've never seen before and others it makes for one in which can be "cringe worthy." I hate that word, but that's exactly how I felt haha.
Still, I've never seen anything like this and as someone who's read a LOT of the aquaman comics I love this portrayal of these characters. They very loosly adapted the drowned earth story and I think it was told even better than in the comic which had way too much stuff going on.
The first movie was an adaptation of a New 52 Aquaman story. They have an animated version of that comic called Throne of Atlantis. The Justice League is there in both of those stories but obviously they aren't going to be in the live action. I recommend that movie for sure!
Taking this movie for what it is it's unique and I'm so happy it exists. Definitely original too! I'm not sure why people hated on it so much reviews really don't make sense to me these days. Goodness me, does everything have to be perfect for the community to enjoy it?
