Dune (2021)
2/10
Overrated movie on Imdb
27 October 2021
This movie is overrated. The expectation was great but this one doesn't add up.

The actor direction is weak, the story isn't focus on the real characters, some have been swapped.

If you really want to see a good adaptation, give a shot to the mini-series of 2000 in 3 episodes.

Simply Black (2020)

Powerful comedy
8 July 2020
Political, neat, edgy, stirring and incredibly funny, "Tout Simplement Noir" transcends its nature as a sketch film to offer a fascinating portrait of a France in the midst of identity introspection.

If you like Black Mirror, skip it

I won't turn around the pot: this is a waste of time.

The idea could have been cool, like the books we used to read in the 80's but it doesn't work. We can't really chose meaningful things or paths. Our decisions are "which kind of cereal will he eat" or "which music will he listen".

The episode consists in a loop, we don't really influence the story and we are permanently rewinded to a previous step if our choice doesn't really match with the storyline.

The scenario isn't good at all and surfes on the wave initiated by Stranger Things: too much 80's kills the 80's.

Average - if you have 1h30 to kill
27 March 2017
You definitely not watch this movie for its plot.

This is a very basic comedy held by two great actors but the scenario doesn't follow.

J.K. Simmons appears tired but does the job and Emile Hirsch compose very well.

However, you can predict the gags and the line of the story but I'd recommend it if you just want see something and kill time.

It's not that boring. Worths a 6/10

Why Him? (2016)

Doesn't work
27 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
To be honest, I can't remember the last time I saw a film so lazy. They have REALLY good actors and actresses working here, one of them arguably the best in the biz right now. And no matter how hard these people tried, it just felt so generic. So...so...lame.

First, a sex joke here. Then, a pop culture reference there. Maybe some product placement over yonder and....Uh-oh! Time for a moment about how the older generation just doesn't understand the young people. Quick, let's make a joke about bukake.

The plot moved so fast but the scenes felt so slow. It felt like there wasn't any time for development or arcs or any kind of reaction that the movie deemed worthy of its time.

Case in point: there is a scene where Ned (Cranston) goes Christmas tree shopping with Laird (Franco). After some dialogue between the two about making it through rough times, Laird picks a Christmas tree that isn't on the lot, but is property of a rival game app company who are "a bunch of dicks". Laird borrows a random employee's chainsaw and tries to start it, unsuccessfully, multiple times before Ned steps forward, revs up the chainsaw with goggles on and smoke bellowing from the machine and...it cuts straight to them already halfway home with the tree, listening to KISS and talking about proposing.

No joke. No payoff. No punchline. No hint of a bonding moment for the two main characters.

New Life (2016)
5/10
Heartwarming message, but romantic drama falls flat.
10 March 2017
This story focuses on the relationship between a loving couple -- and how they weather the ups, downs, and unexpected curve balls life throws at them.

Although there's a tragic twist (which drives a sad character to destruction in a few scenes), overall it's a family-focused film with a solid marriage at its center.

Language is limited to one "oh God" said in a heated moment, and while the main characters are very affectionate.

The message of the movie'd be: Keep going, no matter what kind of hardship comes your way. But the execution is flawed, and there's little here that makes Ben and Ava's story truly compelling to watch.

Sicario (2015)
10/10
Breathless
23 February 2017
As perfectly told in the Guardian, Sicario uses private planes, public roads and clandestine tunnels to slip back and forth across borders both moral and geographical, between Mexico and the United States of America. The title means "hitman" in English language. The movie keeps its plot to its climax. The performance of Del Toro and Blunt are remarkable. Would definitely recommend to watch or to add to your watch-list.
