17 Again (2009)

A refreshing delight
13 March 2017
17 Again is entertaining, engaging and refreshing. Although I have to admit that all the characters in the movie are somehow stupid, they indeed bring a lot of funs. Moreover, this film delivers a nice message. Each choice has its pros and cons. Rather than constantly focus on the negative sides, you should value and cherish what you have on account of the choice.

Highly recommended

I believe only someone who truly love dogs can make such a heartfelt movie. Why has A Dog's Purpose been given so much poor ratings? I don't understand the hate. It is perfect for kids and pet lovers. Even though you can easily guess the plot from the trailer, this movie will let you laugh, let you cry, let you feel grateful for the existence of dogs. What more can you ask of one family film?

High School Musical 2 (2007 TV Movie)

Forget the story, enjoy the songs
11 March 2017
On the one hand, like most reviewers who have seen this movie, I fully agree that the plot is incoherent and unsatisfactory, even worse than the first High School Musical. On the other hand, I feel a little embarrassed to admit that I like the songs in the movie, particularly Gotta Go My Own Way as sung by Vanessa Hudgens & Zac Efron, and Zac Efron's solo, Bet on It. In a nutshell, I think High School Musical 2 is a collection of MVs, just forget the story, and enjoy the songs.

Closer (I) (2004)

A heavy-hearted love story
10 March 2017
Closer is a heavy-hearted love story for adults. It's full of dialogues between four strangers: Alice, Dan, Anna and Larry. All of them are lonely and hypocritical. Alice claimed she loved Dan, but she lied from the very beginning. Dan longed for truth, but he couldn't accept the brutal honesty at all. Anna said she was not a thief, but she indeed stole the love of Dan from Alice. Larry rebuked Anna for not understanding compromise, but he never compromised in this relationship. Therefore, sometimes these people seemed closer, but they didn't actually know each other.

Big (1988)

Give two big thumbs up to Tom Hanks
9 March 2017
Every child wants to become a grownup at some time. And a young boy named Josh had his wish come true by accident in the movie. This lucky big boy is portrayed by Tom Hanks. Wow, he is fabulous! I was so impressed by the scenes when big Josh had to spend the first night alone in a flophouse. He really made an 30-year-old adult with a 13-year-old mind come alive. There's a girl's version of Big called 13 Going on 30, but in my opinion it's not that good or charming by comparison.

An entertaining popcorn movie
8 March 2017
Well, as an action comedy, Charlie's Angels is completely an eye-candy entertainment. There are three sexy female agents, some outrageous stunts and many silly funs. You can't expect too much from such kind of popcorn movies. And mind you, although I enjoyed this film, I didn't recommend its sequel, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, which isn't worth to see except you drool over Demi Moore.

Kids will like it
7 March 2017
The trailer is terribly attractive. The cat is awfully endearing. I went to see this fantasy film with high expectations, and found its story was ludicrous and disappointing. However, it did is a funny movie and have some laugh-out-loud moments as well as some sweet moments. So look out, grownups! Nine lives may truly offend you, but entertain your kids.

Sometimes the truth is merely an illusion
6 March 2017
How would you learn what is true and fake? In the Matrix world, you take the red pill, you choose a truth; you take the blue pill, you choose a lie. Then, how would you learn whether the truth is the real truth or just an illusion of truth? The first film of The Matrix Trilogy tells you the truth is humans are fighting machine for their existence. But its sequels, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolution tells you the real truth is this whole thing is just a tremendous trick of machine while humans are merely unwitting pawns. And you know, sometime such illusions happen in your real world.

Absolutely ridiculous
5 March 2017
I watched The Stepford Wives because of Bree Van De Camp in Desperate Housewives who I kinda like. However, the wives of Stepford are absolutely ridiculous. You don't even know those so-called perfect women are robots or human beings! At least, Bree is an emotional character, a human of flesh and blood. What's more, it seems to me that this film is a stigmatization of feminism.

Anyway, we're sharing the same desperation
5 March 2017
For me, who is born and raised in China, this is actually a window to peep at middle-class lives in America. As to the lifestyle of middle-class, there is a world of difference between Chinese and American. But as to the domestic issues, Chinese housewives and American housewives confront the similar problems, which are always related with husband, children, mother-in-law and extramarital affairs. From time to time, the same desperation creeps over each of these women.

Good to see when you're bored
4 March 2017
The story of Step Up is simple and predictable. I just like one particular scene when the leading actor and actress dance over the harbor. Their dancing with the beautiful sunset and the sultry music, is truly impressive. If you like this movie, you may like Center Stage: Turn it Up too. There are resemblances between them. Overall, they are the kind of movies that are good to see when you're bored on a lazy day.

Freaky Friday (2003)

Sooooo freaky
3 March 2017
A Friday on which mother and daughter switch bodies is certainly freaky. But you know what is more freaky? A teenage boy falls in love with both mother and daughter in a short time without any confusion! The plot is just unconvincing. Besides, what a pity to see Lindsay Lohan in this movie isn't nice-looking anymore. Personally, I like her in The Parent Trap very much.

Love the adaptation
2 March 2017
Every youth with Y chromosome should be fond of Fight Club. Not all females will like it, but I do love both the novel and the film. For sure Chuck Palahniuk's work is marvelous. But the adaptation is so magnificent that I think David Fincher's work is more superior than the original. Especially the totally changed ending, it's the best closing shot I have ever seen.
