The Fall of the House of Usher (2023)
Not a fan
Not a fan of horror movies but this looked and smelled like a tv show we previously watched, only realised at the second episode that one of the Directors is Mike Flanagan. Watched Midnight Mass and the man is a Genius, the way he brings the storyline to life is mesmerising.
It's one of those tv shows that keep you off the phone, grabs and takes you on a wild journey.
It takes you into a world of the self-obsessed, detached, self-absorbed, a cold world that this planet is made up of.
The rich being above the rest, governed by their own rules and law where money is the be all and end all.
The underlying message is found throughout the show, you just have to find it. This is how the 0.001% live while the peasants argue over the leftovers!
The Walking Dead: Dead City (2023)
Ridiculous...
We stopped watching the original Walking Dead after season 6, it just became boring and felt like every season after that was forced, detached and repetitive but Negan was a breath of fresh air.
Great actor, playing a terrifying psycho very well. He came across as the ultimate villain that would do anything to stay on top, nothing was sacred so when we saw a trailer of him being one of the main characters we thought we'd give it another shot.
Maggie on the other hand never came across as a leader, constantly frightened, seeking protection and a liability.
This duo isn't going to work, makes no sense to have a spin off with these two characters. The ridiculous scene where Maggie and Negan meet, she blocks his attack and pulls a knife to his throat, like c'mon, this is Negan we are talking about.
Also Maggie's love of her life had his head smashed into pieces by Negan and now they are cooperating?
This show makes no sense.
Silo (2023)
Starts well and disappears into the abyss by episode 4
This TV Show had potential, interesting sci fi story about life in some sort of bunker. The first 2 episodes kept me intrigued, I liked the idea of humans being brainwashed into solitary life because someone thought it was a good idea. In the current context very much like the 'pandemic' we recently had, if you didn't follow the Sheep you would be ostracized, alienated, harassed etc... This show has a similar feel, someone built the bunker, brainwashed humans to think that it's toxic outdoors so generations thought they would be safe living in this Bunker.
Now back to the show, it started of well, human did some research and figured out that the outdoors wasn't toxic and decided to go out, husband follows 2 years later. Now these two main characters have disappeared and the story suddenly focuses on a third party.
It's starting to have that 'Lost' TV show feel, constantly making up side stories with no conclusions, episode 4 would be our last, cbf trying to figure out the many connections and having to wait until episode 10 to get any sort of conclusion!
John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023)
Definitely for the fanboys
8.2 current rating, not even close, this is becoming ridiculous. Keanu is old and the fighting scenes are slow motion, very grandpa like.
The blind assassin chasing Keanu sees better than someone with 20/20 vision, the 1m distance gun fights and blocks are out of a fairytale.
The main audience for this type of movie are the same that pay to watch the Fast and Furious franchise.
This franchise needs to hire a younger actor, make the fight scenes a little more realistic and stop copying Power Rangers.
Do not waste time watching this movie if you want anything close to realism, watch this if you are bored and want to see kids creating fight scenes with multi million budgets.
Atlanta (2016)
His Music Sucks but....
The man is a genius when it comes to creating and producing. Thoughtful, artistic and there is a always a meaning behind every episode. In my opinion it shows the hardship that the African Americans go through living in the USA but also the divide between each other. Some of it brought on by the system but some of it brought on by the survival instinct.
Donald has chosen the right actors to portray the life journey of somebody that is trying to make it.
Darius that free spirit, going through life by taking it as it comes with no planning ahead. LaKeith the perfect actor to play this character.
Paper Boi the rapper trying to make it, initially comes through as a hard rapper who is ready for war but throughout the series shows that he is human after all.
Love the family connection throughout the series which confirms that the family bond is stronger than the situation you find yourself in! 💪
UPDATE: Definitely downgrading the score, last couple of seasons are pointless with no objective, just ran out of ideas..
