Kyûketsuki hantâ D (1985)
The worst anime ever
I have seen both Vampire Hunter D and Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust and I must say that Bloodlust is a must see and must have. Unfortunately the first movie is the worst anime I have ever seen. The sound is awful even on DVD. The animation is really weak, the voice acting sucks big time, and the lines are totally uninspired. The characters are drawn really badly - all the women have big heads, like they are geniuses or something and look very "manly". There is absolutely nothing that I liked in this anime. The thing that I hate most was the annoying laughter of the characters. They were saying something stupid and then they always laughed. It was very annoying.
If you want to see nice anime go for Bloodlust, not this one.
Macross Plus (1994)
Good Anime...
The movie is based on the TV series Macross Plus. Basically it has exactly the same story but it is told in a more "concentrated" way. Some details were taken out and some very small others were added. For example we have a little bit of "nudity" and the TV series didn't have that.
If you saw the TV series you don't really need to bother with the movie because you won't get enough additional content. In fact even the DVD quality of the movie isn't that great. The series is better even on this chapter.
If you haven't seen the series then the movie it is a nice experience worth your time & money. You will enjoy one of the best soundtracks, good action and a nice story.
Code 46 (2003)
Another Love Story?
Basically this movie is another Love Story. I don't know why but it reminded me of "Lost in Translation". I guess because Code 46 is slow paced as "Lost in Translation" is. Here we have a love story between an "older" married guy and a 25 year old woman. The ideas expressed in the movie are a little bit different from LiT though. The main difference between the two movies is that the action takes place i a near future where two people genetically "identical" are not allowed to have any children. So we have different dilemmas. I would like to say more about this movie but i don't want to spoil the story.
If you liked "Lost in Translation" you will surely like this movie. If not... it's better to spend your money elsewhere.
Shin seiki Evangelion Gekijô-ban: Air/Magokoro wo, kimi ni (1997)
one of the classics
If you have seen the TV series or Death&Rebirth you should definitely see this one. It explains lots of stuff that remained unclear in the previous episodes so now you can have a better picture of the story. Even so, some stuff still remains unexplained or rather vague. You really need to pay attention to all the small details, otherwise you won't understand too much. The story is good, as usual. This time is not so action focused as it was at the beginning of the series. Now it is exploring the history of NERV and its people, their dramas, their psychological problems. If you haven't seen the series you won't understand too much. So... before seeing this movie you should try them or the DVD with Death&Rebirth.
Enjoy!
Moartea domnului Lazarescu (2005)
Just plain reality
This movie it's just a dose of "cruel, plain reality" of the medical system in Romania. If you already live here and you are familiar with our life/society this movie will bore you after the first half. I think the main drawback of this movie it is its length. After one hour you already get its message. More than two hours is just too much.
Still the movie is not a bad one: the actors do a really great job, the filming techniques are interesting, all the shots were done in real backgrounds of the Bucharest hospitals and so on. So if you're not from Romania i think you will find it interesting, even striking. Our reality is very different compared to the one in US, UK, France...
