Dragon Tales (1999)
Vibrant Characters, Valuable Life Lessons, and ever so Magical!
This program did an excellent job of helping children develop their emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills, showing kids how to cope and work through the challenges they may face.
One of my favorite shows from my childhood, and something I look forward to sharing with my future children. <3
If you would like to learn more I highly recommend watching YouTube channel DefunctLand's video on the history and legacy of Dragon Tales, showing us the rare soul that was artist and creator Ron Rodecker.
Over the Moon (2020)
The emotion is palpable.
I seriously don't understand how this movie has a 6.4 rating, what an injustice. Over the Moon completely shattered my expectations. This is a beautifully executed story tackling grief, overcoming loss, and the meaning of family. The animation and design are impeccable and captivating of course, but for me, the soundtrack/score and the characters are what made it truly immersive. From the beginning they pull no punches with Ruthie Ann Miles's vocals, like wow that woman is talented. The music is breathtaking and every character is authentically written and acted with such heart. The emotion is palpable. Even smaller characters are given more nuance than you might expect. What a breakout role for Cathy Ang as Fei Fei, she is a force to be reckoned with! The only thing I didn't love is Gobi's character, he's cute and silly but a bit generic - like Olaf but less funny and looks like a booger 😂😩. This is a very small qualm though in the grand scheme of things. In conclusion, I hope more people give this movie a chance. You may find yourself swept off your feet as I did.
