Troppo (2022)
Thomas Jane and Australia = excellent
Very nice to see one of favorites, Thomas Jane in an Australian production. Their tv shows tend to be character driven. This thriller does not disappoint. Great acting, writing, directing and gorgeous scenery.
Under the Banner of Heaven (2022)
Under the Banner of Boredom
Good actors based on an excellent book by Jon Krakauer can not save a slow and anti-climatic snooze fest. This might have fared better as a documentary and the Mormon history depicted in docudrama format.
Sins in the Suburbs (2022)
Sins of Lifetime
Only way for Lifetime to absolve themselves is to remove this trashy formulaic dumb woman in peril genre. This one was so badly acted and boring. Made it through 45 minutes and that was tough.
Landscapers (2021)
Disjointed mess
It is British and has a distinguished cast. The cinematography is interesting. So what is missing? The dark humor fell flat for me. Although artsy, it's a blend of clips from real movies, fantasy sequences (or whatever they are) and crime drama, The result is plodding and anti-climatic. This being said, I confess that I could only sit through 2 episodes. I dislike waiting for a mini series to get better 1/2 way through. The writers traded real writing and plot structure for an attractive package.
Harrow (2018)
The fractured family drama is dullsville!
I am late to watching this show. Ioan Gruffudd is a favorite so I thought I would give it a chance I think his daughter and ex-wife do not add to his character or to the show. I find myself wanting to fast forward through their scenes. I like the woman cop but she gets written out after 1 season.
Brisbane is just beautiful and earned 2 of the 5 stars. I stopped after the 3 free episodes and that is just fine by me.
Abduction Runs in the Family (2021)
Abduction Runs Amok
How insulting to families who have lost a child via abduction. I have never heard of a man abducting a child for any other reason than to sexually molest them and often kill them. This perp.'s wife dies and he loses his daughter
to CPS because he worked 3 jobs and left her alone. No one told him about babysitters, apparently. He abducts the protagonist and insists she use the name of his daughter. Miraculously, he is no longer working 3 jobs. He just wanted a daughter (for 7 years, no less!) Otherwise, he is a great guy and his former victim enlists his help because he knows the type of man who abducts a child!
Stopped watching.. don't know the ending.. don't care. Neither should you.
Star Trek: Picard (2020)
Picard, a fine burgundy is waiting for you at home!
I am giving it 3 stars because of the nostalgic aspect. However, what a runaway mess full of unfunny, unlikeable and unrelatable characters. Seven of Nine needs therapy bad for her anger issues and Picard needs to retire in his vineyard, for goodness sake! The season finale was idiotic. A Gollum, really?
Helter Skelter (2020)
Broad Subject
It was a mish mash. Why repeat clips? Charles Manson's history has been recounted in other documentaries and I suspect many others skipped that episode. Boring!
The strength was the footage at the time of the murders. I know so much work was put into it but it needs more editing and less jumping around.
Stay (2021)
Loved it!
I am a sucker for found footage-like horror films. It is a slow build to the horror but it does not disappoint. The characters are likeable and that apartment had very creepy vibes. Something about a barely furnished apartment with a mannequin struck the right note.
Supernatural: Last Holiday (2020)
Hilarious
Loved the lightheartedness. Mrs. Butters is a great character with super powers .They should consider asking her and her kind for help for the big showdown.
