Das Signal (2024)
Love- Leaves One Viciously Enchanted
Had a day that was very difficult. Finished the show tonight. I define life as love, or the absence of love.
The absence of love is everywhere. I am thankful for moments that remind us of love. Like listening to Helena Bonham Carter talk and read poetry. Like the song "Poetry Man " by Phoebe Snow.
This show was about what to me is most important every moment. Love. Of course I fell in love with Peri. I'd like to ride horses with her on Carmel Beach. Then have a cup of tea and talk on the Terrace at La Playa.
A film is what often dwells within you and may surface when you become the scene. I love feeling the flow of my senses. Thank you Peri, you are truly enchanting.

Afilmative Action
The black male in the role of the FBI Supervisor was miscast. He was not believable at all. His portrayal reminded me of the 70's black exploitation movies. The Mexican male in the role of the Texas Supervisor was also miscast. His inability to match his character combined with the black male's
casting mismatch detracted from the film's flow. Replacing these two actors with believable people in both roles would have made the film much easier to view and enjoy. Sadly, in the present state of our country, specific cultural insertion, however unrelated to a television or film project's credibility, is the new force feed. This leaves the American film public appreciating films from other countries that do not pander to force feeding actors into a film due to their culture. Companies that control much of American television and film presentations disregard quality for what I term afilmative action, placing actors in roles they are simply not believable in. I'd like my $19.99 back.
Dream Horse (2020)
All Together Now
Four people in the theater watching this film. A horse with resilience. People in a town where they sing songs together. Where one is all. The true closeness of human touch from one to one. Put the one to one in a group and feel love. I would give anything to see 10 per cent of this in any town in America. Then again, I am a dreamer. See this film. Tell a friend.
Fisherman's Friends (2019)
Living in the USA
The sea. Music from ordinary life. Beautiful people. TOGETHERNESS. When giving your word has true meaning. This film was how hearts that beat from real happiness make the journey of life one words can never describe. The sadness comes from knowing living in the USA does not have a place to belong.
Once Were Brothers: Robbie Robertson & The Band (2019)
Blame It on the Times
The Band's music shall live forever. Watching this film all I could feel was the anger of betrayal. I saw this film Tuesday in San Luis Obispo, California. Beyond the visual intrusion of two women on their cell phones who fed their emotional deficit reminded me of how many people live a consistency of self-focus.
Robbie lived through his self-value. Aging perhaps reveals a different value. Pain and regret do not fade away no matter who esteems you or your money. I grew up being backstage in Monterey as a young man at concerts and felt a beautiful kinship from much of the music we all heard. As in every facet of our heart diamond, to some, music is just a job and a way to make money. For those who love, their music remains transcending.
And a true brother is one who remains.

SANTA BARBARA CHRISTMAS...
Love, family, closeness and sacrifice. Looking in each other's eyes. Conversations unflowering time. Anger spoken and unspoken. Feel what you live watching this film. Feel also what you have lost. We have lost. Santa Barbara premiere. A theatre where older souls frequent. As the credits began to roll after the film, elderly people were gone and lit up the aisles with their cell phones. Listen to the Cat Stevens song, "Dying to Live." Merry Christmas to all in gratitude for the true closeness and love which is present in our lives. and the rest checking their (imprisonment) cell phones. God Save the Queen.
I miss you Claire Foy.
Echo in the Canyon (2018)
Young Man, until you learn to appreciate the ART......
I saw this film yesterday in Santa Barbara. After telling some guy to turn off his cellphone. Never saw the little theater so crowded. The film was a spoonful of Laurel Canyon music honey when there is so much more to tell.
Music is personal. Yesterday I finished writing a song out in the trees and hills of Gaviota on my 12 string guitar. The song is called "Tom Petty's Gone." A friend picked me up and we had a picnic on the road to where Jackson Browne lives. We were then headed into town to see "Echo In the Canyon." A film reveals the intent of the story, the viewer then likes it or not. Crosby, Stills, Nash. Brian Wilson. Roger McGuinn and others were sharing stories. Absent were Neil Young, Joni Mitchell and other untold tales.
This morning I woke up feeling what the film drove home for me. What happened to us ? Many of us were open and the music was the reflection of that beautiful spirit. People today are what happened to them. Peace and love was not a game for me. Miracles happen when we listen and talk to one another. So at the end of the film, it was dedicated to Tom Petty. While I was finishing my song yesterday, I wondered what Mike Campbell would do with the lead guitar part. He's a beautiful person, very kind. But, I can't make that phone call since I am not connected. I laughed thinking if I went to David Crosby's house and asked him to listen to the song, would he invite me in? Joan Baez's father picked me up hitchhiking once and asked me to play my guitar. I said no. He drops me off by Stanford University and says, "Young man, until you learn to appreciate the art for the art itself, it doesn't matter if two people, or two thousand people clap for you." True wisdom, but I wish you could hear my song. I felt like I lost a brother when Tom died. Keep on keepin on.
Ayka (2018)
Close to Home
We see a film that makes love to questions our souls seldom ask. The pain of attachment whispers to those of us finding love sacred, until we are all alone screaming in torment's silence.
A woman in Moscow attempting the forbidden, crossing the bridge of survival in the ice and snow of human apathy. As we are there with her, helplessness unflowering
shock, the garden of our selfishness wants us to leave this immersion, are we drowning or escaping...Although we are the prisoner of our own denial, we would beg to lose the shackles of the woman in this film. Samal graces the river of my senses with a waterfall of paralysis. A rainbow of emotion awaits you. Become the fire of the sunrise. Or the darkness before the dawn. Fire does not burn. It illuminates. A film that blinds, that you may truly see and feel. Close to home...
