Darkest Hour (2017)
1/10
the two darkest hours I have spent in my life
26 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The first hour of this movie, indeed, was the darkest hour, the second hour was slightly less so because it was closer to the ending. I have given it one star as they do not have a minus setting.

I could not believe anyone would present this garbage as an accurate portrayal of the man or the times. They have made Churchill look like an indecisive wimp and had him speaking in a manner that is not found in any historical footage of the great man. He came across as a repulsive bully who only stopped drinking when he went to sleep. Although he did self medicate his manic depression with alcohol he certainly did not drink to the level portrayed in this piece of trash. The inaccuracies of his efforts and of the times are far too numerous to list, I stopped counting after about the first ten minutes. The movie itself was disjointed, poorly made and reflected a lack of effort on the part of both the production team and the actors. How cheap did they want to make this movie, toy boats in a tub with a back drop of the white cliffs of dover, totally ridiculous. The scene of him on the underground station and on the train were beyond belief, neither he or the general population ever behaved like that, it may be movie material but it is definitely not historically accurate.

All the people involved in this movie would have needed to do was watch any of three movies, Churchill, Their Finest or Dunkirk; to have gained a much better grasp of the times, the people and indeed of Churchill himself and those close to him. If anyone involved in this movie had watched these other movies than made this tragic excuse for a film, than, I think they best find a new profession.

I really regret paying the price of admission for this and it certainly shows how little an oscar nomination is worth , if this pre school effort has received seven nominations. I cannot recommend this and wonder why they even bothered making it, just trying to ride on the coat tails of the british film industry again.

may be the worst movie ever made
12 February 2017
Judging from the many good reviews this movie has received, all I can think, is that they played a different movie at the theater I went too. I forced myself to endure this movie that lacked a story line, had no cohesion, was full of very poorly acted bad characters and had poorly directed scenes from the outset. I endured it for 45 minutes as I thought my wife was enjoying it due to her laughter at many of the scenes. Thankfully she asked me at this stage did I think that this was the worst movie we had ever seen and I said very close to it, and we left. At least we got to have a nice ice cream, but that was the only good part of this movie.

superb movie made with sensitivity

what a pleasure it was to view this movie. i picked it as the best of a bad bunch to go and see on a rainy day. what a great and pleasant surprise to sit through such a thoughtful and well made movie. a brilliant script delivered by two great lead actors who were supported by a very strong cast. it is such a long time that i have been moved to tears by a performance and an even longer time that i have found a movie to be totally believable due to the actors work.

the simple plot was well developed and allowed for some unexpected twists and pleasant surprises along with some intense moments of personal angst.

well done to the actors and makers of this hidden gem.

the second worst movie i have tried to endure
6 June 2013
what a great disappointment this movie was. a totally unrealistic and poorly directed movie i am a die-hard Leonardo fan but this was the worst movie i have seen him in. my wife and i have watched nearly ten thousand movies together over the years. we have only ever walked out of three movies. the great gatsby was the third.

the camera shot changes were so fast they hurt the eyes and the whole movie was a cross between a poor melodrama and and a badly produced farce. after enduring one hour and ten minutes of overstimulation and a care less attitude from the actors, we decided to leave.

for a movie that promised so much, it delivered very little. even the great Leonardo DiCaprio seemed disinterested in his part. he particularly appeared reluctant to deliver his lines when they included the words old sport.
