What was the point? First saw this a few years ago
and enjoyed it.having recently read the novel I decided to rewatch it .and was seriously disappointed vellone and sylvie are terrific but miss signoret is badly miscast she is just too worldly for the role.also why the update.and the major plot changes.a planed murder becomes a spur of the moment one.and I take it the invention of a blackmailer is ment to be a physical representation of their guilt.and why change the ending.what is almost a suicide pact.becomes a just a twist in the tail ending.as good as mr carne is.he should have had more faith in the original.

Mare of Easttown
(2021)
Anyone seen happy valley !
6 September 2023
Happy valley is a BBC series about a Yorkshire tough policewoman with a disfunctionel family and guess what she is raising her grandson. Mare of East town is about a tough policewoman with a disfunctional family and guess what she is raising her grandson .that said both Sarah Lancashire (happy valley).and Kate Winslet are superb.as you are more likely to have seen mare of easttown .I recommend you seek out happy valley.though Kate is wonderful , it would be nice to see Sarah Lancashire getting the same acclaim..so both are great but as happy valley started earlier .their is definitely some plagerisim going on.

Netflix what are you doing
27 June 2021
Well done Netflix for including it in there catalogue
But to show it without any music is a little bizarre
I have seen many silent films ,sometimes it's just a piano player(Neil brand) if your lucky or an event showing like napoleon with full orchestra .in their day silent films always had musical accomnament .lf I knew how to contact Netflix and praise and criticise them at the same time.there is no point in showing these films if you don't understand what you are showing.
Dutch Wife in the Desert
(1967)
A unique genre hybrid
5 March 2021
An arthouse film noir .it is overstylist and veres at times towards pretensions. Mostly in the dialogue and its treatment of woman leaves a bad taste in the mouth but on the plus side it looks wonderful and has a great soundtrack Sijon suzuki would have been pround to have had his name on this
Roadkill
(2020)
Good political drama scuppered by middle class angst
23 October 2020
Episode 1. Excellent
Episode2.good
Episode 3 awful
Episode 4. Good
The problem with episode 3 is the lack of sympathy one feels for the daughters of the central character .they have lived in a good home and have had a good education without the worry of finance .I personally would have loved there start in life .but all they display is vacuous self pity this middle class angst spoils the show .david hare is a very good writer and yes maybe there is truth in it being accused of left wing but when we have a member of the Tory front bench who has shares in a company which put out a statement that claimed that the pandemic was a golden opportunity to make money one has to agree there is truth in what he is saying.anyway back to the show laurie et all are uniformly good .the convulted plot about the duplicity of modern politics is believable and apart from the ungrateful family this is a good political thriller.

Dane dehaan is james dean .please
21 October 2020
An interesting idea scuppered by miscasting robert Pattinson is great and shows that he will be a major talent in the years too come.the problem is mr dehaan he is not now nor will he ever be james dean .he is obviously trying and embarrassing at times in that effort this is a major disappointment from the director of Control.it has nice moments but not enough
