The Grand Tour: The Grand Tour: A Scandi Flick (2022)
Flogging a dead horse
The boys are back on the road post COVID. Off to Scandinavia with the intention to re-establish the cars as the stars, and for the petrolheads there is therefore plenty of unironic talk of induction air filter kits and anti-lag on the turbo.
Frustratingly, though, the series continues to be very predictable with the forced buffoonery that has become their stock in trade - setting fire to things, trashing stuff, concocting madcap schemes that are intended to fail.
What's particularly frustrating is that within the demolition derby there's some very good scenes just waiting to be turned in to another, better film.
This episode is an attempt to bring the car more into the centre but like the kind of hybrid SUV we know the GT boys hate, they've iterated their act in to something that is neither one thing nor t'other.
Grace: Not Dead Enough (2022)
Easy viewing
It lasts a little over 90 minutes, well presented and easy on the eye and ear. The brain best not get too engaged as the story does stretch the bounds of credibility.
The Weekend Away (2022)
A ridiculous story line
Not too sure how this got funding I suspect it was very low budget and accepted by Netflix to fill a slot.
Difficult to criticise in detail without giving the plot away but there was no tension, the viewer was distracted by the beauty is Split, certainly did this tourist destination no harm at all.
Easy viewing and it can entertain for 90 minutes but set your expectations low.
Don't Look Up (2021)
A tough watch
It was probably a good idea but at
two hours plus it was just too much. It was apparent that the actors were having a ball but there was little pity for the viewers. In the end I gave up ...
What Is Life Worth (2020)
A challenging question
How do you place a value on a tragic death. The dilemma faced by the master of the fund and his team that only gets more complex the more families encountered. But you only have two hours and there are 7,000 claimants. Impossible to cover adequately and unlikely to warrant a mini series.
So it fails because of the complexity of the question it attempts to answer.
The Grand Tour: The Grand Tour Presents: Carnage A Trois (2021)
Lazy television
That was embarrassing, it was so bad I had to turn it off. What was the point, driving around in three old French cars then stopping off every so often to utilise some more French cars in a prank. Drop a CV from a great height, race some staff but stop after 200 metres to have a meal.
Total rubbish but I am forgiving and hence two stars.
Vigil (2021)
Verging on unwatchable
As we move through the episodes my rating continues to decline. Currently at 5 but very questionable. The story attempts to generate suspense but a total failure, who cares, let's have another cup of tea. A developing lesbian relationship, a car crash and loss of a husband, a detective who suffers from claustrophobic tendencies stuck underwater for three weeks, a secret drinker, I could go on but who really cares!
Taken 3 (2014)
You get what you pay for!
Well, you certainly know the story line but if you just want to while a way a couple of hours...
If you start questioning the story line the whole thing will crumble in front of you. Forrest Whitaker was a good counter weight to our hero. Most of the other characters were fairly anonymous...
Enslaved (2020)
Not a history program so what is it?
If you are into diving and like long stretches of video depicting divers on the sea bottom looking for a piece of ivory then this is the show for you.
