Moulin Rouge! (2001)
10/10
Simply brilliant.
26 June 2006
I rarely ever think films deserve a perfect score. (Just to verify that Moulin Rouge! does indeed deserve a ten.) The acting is excellent. The design is amazing. Moulin Rouge! is simply brilliant. The film starts off in fun and silliness but then takes a dramatic turn into depth and seriousness. It goes beyond the boundaries that movies normally keep themselves in and is TRULY unlike any other musical ever created! Think movies like Chicago were great? Think again. A new definition of "greatness" is made. Moulin Rouge is utterly creative. In fact, it should have won best picture, great as its competitors were that year. Watch this, and prepare to laugh, cry, and be awed.

Sin City (2005)
5/10
an honest review
9 March 2006
The visual style of this film is simply amazing. It truly is not a film at all, but Frank Miller's graphic novels simply on the big screen. However, although Sin City is visually dazzling, the story-line and dialogue sure aren't. Here is when certain things should have been left out. What may have been awesome dialogue in a graphic novel just sounds plain corny and blah in the theatre. Its like the script was not adapted from the original, it was taken straight from it. So, all in all, Sin City is visually incredible, but the rest of it is just plain tiresome and corny. Now, I realize that a lot of people love and worship this movie. However, they are too blinded by the special effects and the "coolness" of it. I'm sorry, but the lines spoken by the characters are just way too sappy and sometimes overly sentimental. Again, what works in a graphic novel does not work in a film. I'm afraid that fact was overlooked. Also, be forewarned those who go and see this, Sin City did not need to work hard to earn its R rating.

Batman Begins (2005)

Batman Begins is amazing
14 November 2005
This is definitely the best batman film ever. Forget the former neon lights, silly lines, and wildly dressed bad guys. This is the Batman movie that we've all been waiting for! The other Batman films are indeed fun, but Batman Begins is above them all. This one is dark, intriguing, exciting, and simply amazing. In other words, it is everything that the original Batman (comic book) was originally made out to be. In other words, if you were disappointed with the former Batman movies or even if you liked them, you should definitely see Batman Begins. Your views will change forever. This is who Batman was, should've been, and who he will be from now on. Batman Begins is the only batman film who finally gets it right.

Bang, Bang, You're Dead
19 October 2005
This is definitely a film all high school, and perhaps middle school, students should see. As a high school student myself, I recently watched it in my television production class. This film really sends out a message. It tells us that bullying or what many think is just teasing, really does hurt people. Remember hearing about those schools where kids took guns in to shoot the other students? Well this film gives us a view into the minds of those kids. We begin to see why they would ever do such a thing. We see all of the hurt and suffering they go through. This film is a teacher. We learn why such things happen and most importantly, that it is up to us to prevent these kids from ever having to go to such drastic measures.
