Imperfections (2018)
Exciting New Thriller
I'm a huge film buff and have seen many crime/heist films in my day, however, one that stands out the most is a new movie I watched called Imperfections. It's a comedy/crime thriller that is sure to keep you at the edge of your seat the whole time! The story line is centered around a struggling actress named Cassidy who is at her wits end when it comes to getting a job. It isn't until her mom, Val, comes home from a date one night with a job opportunity at a diamond importer business in Chicago that she decides to get herself back on track. However, while at this new job she meets the owners son, Alex, who shares his get rich quick scheme with her in order to help pay off some debt, which sends the movie in an exciting new direction. I think that the directors did a great job making each character as realistic as possible, and the cinematography was excellent. My favorite aspect of the film has to be the comedic relief that pops up unexpectedly from scene to scene, to give the audience a break from the thrilling narrative. All in all, I loved this movie and highly recommend keeping it on your radar!
Chief Zabu (1988)
Hilarious & Quirky Comedy
Shot in the 1980's, Chief Zabu is a hilarious and eccentric comedy film about a get rich quick scheme that two sleazy New York real estate developers devise after meeting the President of a Polynesian island called Tiburaku. After realizing the potential profit that they can earn from investing in this far away island, both Ben Sydney and his business partner Sammy Brooks start seeing dollar signs in front of their eyes. This sets the stage for what will be a roller coaster ride full of quirky and outlandish scenes that will have you entertained for the entirety of the film! One of my favorite aspects were the fast-paced scenes, and quick banter between the characters, which had me cracking up at their witty remarks. Overall, I really enjoyed watching this film and highly recommend it to any comedy film fans out there!
Good Fortune (2016)
Inspiring American Dream Story
Good Fortune is an inspiring "rags to riches" story about how John Paul DeJoria went from being homeless twice in his life, to then becoming a successful entrepreneur and lifelong philanthropist. The documentary focuses on how JP started brands such as Paul Mitchell and Patron Tequila from pretty much nothing, and the hardships that he has overcome in order to be in the position that he is in today. Throughout the film, the audience is taken back in time to pivotal moments in JP's life in order to show the tough road to success that he has conquered. My favorite aspect of the film was the countless stories told by close friends of JP's, such as Dan Aykroyd and Michelle Phillips, which gives the audience an in depth and personal account of JP's life that wouldn't normally be available to the public. I really enjoyed watching this genuine and positive documentary, and highly recommend it to anyone interested in knowing what the true definition of the American Dream is.
Danger Close (2017)
Highly Charged Documentary- Danger Close
Danger Close, directed by David Salzberg and Christian Tureaud, is a military documentary film that captures the sense of courage and brotherhood that Special Operation Forces share while deployed on the front lines. This film follows Alex Quade, a highly decorated freelance reporter and documentary filmmaker, as she becomes embedded with Special Forces units and Conventional Forces in order to capture the inspiring story of Staff Sgt. Robert Pirelli and the legacy that he left behind. Robert Pirelli, a combat engineer, built combat outpost Pirelli located in Iraq, however, later lost his life in a firefight against Al Qaeda insurgents during a combat mission. As a result, Alex Quade vowed to tell his inspiring story in order to bring closure for the Pirelli family and highlight the legacy that he left behind. Shot in a point & shoot style, this film grants unprecedented access to the life that Special Forces soldiers live and the day to day challenges that they must overcome while on the battle field. The film lasts 90 minutes, however, the raw and heart-warming emotions that you'll feel will last long after you've watched this authentic and visceral film.
