Change your mindset
I decided to watch this movie on the plane. Before my flight, I had never even heard of it. I thought the writing/acting was actually quite funny. Although slightly unrealistic, I did like the concept. I think the people that gave this movie terrible ratings may have been expecting something different. The fact that I went in with zero expectations helped me to enjoy the movie. You can definitely tell this movie was of lower budget but everything was done extremely well. If you are going to watch this movie go in like me, with zero expectations and a clean slate. Don't think of this movie as anything more than a dark comedy.
On the Line (2022)
Bad acting
Before the end of the movie I was just enraged at how bad the acting was. I was thinking, Mel Gibson's career has really gone downhill. Then the climax happened and it made sense as to why the acting was so bad. The whole incident was a prank. Even after finding out the whole ordeal was a prank I still felt the acting was unbearable. Interesting concept but not really practical. I don't think this movie deserves anything higher than a 5. I don't even know how this movie could have gotten a higher rating, but I am sure it's just me. Tony, the character from Money Heist, has always annoyed me, I hated his character in the show, so maybe that's what irked me, not sure.
Anatomie d'une chute (2023)
Well Done
This movie was very well done. I loved how the director used the camera angles to capture certain perspectives. The acting was phenomenal, even by the dog. As an American it was interesting seeing how the court system works in France, not sure if it was totally real, but the outfits none the less were interesting. As for the story line Samuel seemed to be a coward, falling from a 3 story window, not exactly sure if he would die which also makes sense that it could be a cry for help like the incident with the aspirin, therefore, the follow-up dialogue with the arguments reestablished his motive for the nature of his suicide. The writing was so good that we felt the frustration the main character had with not being able to constantly speak French during the trial. I gave this movie an 8/10 because there were some moments that were drawn out or didn't seem to be very relevant since it was such a long movie. Once again, a job well done.
Oppenheimer (2023)
Christopher Nolan made magic
Oppenheimer was a brilliant, intellectual, charming but controversial and complex man and Christopher Nolan did an amazing job capturing all different sides of him. This is probably one of the best movies I've ever seen. The movie did a great job of helping the audience feel, in a small way, how being a genius can be an amazing thing or debilitating. Women wanted to sleep with him and men wanted to be him, or probably, would or did sleep with him as well. He was very similar to a cult leader and could get almost anyone to like him, heck, I fell in love with him. I like how we still don't know if creating the atomic bom the right thing. Yes, Russia or Germany could have made a bigger one and detonated it over another country, including the US, but couldn't we have showed how much damage the bom could have done by dropping it in the middle of the ocean? Who knows, it's impossible to know, which is why the movie was so intense. I would have given it a 10 but there were some parts that were a little cheesy, like all of the celebrity cameos. In the end, this movie was well done and Mr. Nolan certainly delivered.
Hounded (2022)
Prime has the wrong name listed!
At first I couldn't find the name of the movie in order to review it. Then I saw a picture of one of the sub characters and recognized it, the movie is called "Hounded"! Is it a translation of some sort? This movie is so bad that Amazon doesn't even care what the name of the movie is, how sad. Not sure if the acting was bad or if it was the script but both weren't pleasant. My rule is, I have to finish a movie in order to give it a review, and I was already committed after 15/20 minutes because I like the accents. If this was an American movie I would have turned it off in an instant. The plot I feel has been replayed multiple times. Do not waste your time. I gave it a 4 because the protagonist wins. And again, I like me an English accent :-)
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)
Mad at myself for even commenting
I cannot even believe that I am wasting time writing about how bad this film is. This is an insult to human beings. First off, the police would never had taken an old sick lady in their police van not buckled up to a gurney, not realistic. Second, why would the girl go with them, doesn't make sense but maybe it is just a "small town" thing. If we get to the point where the movie could get just a little more believable, why would the girl keep her seat belt on after getting into the car accident, restraining herself from moving...the first thing I would have done would have been to grab the sheriff's gun to protect myself. There were so many things wrong with the plot but the next most frustrating thing was, was something wrong with the bus??? Why did the driver get off the bus? Everyone was trapped but they didn't even try to open the windows until later? There were so many opportunities for these characters to get away but they were too dumb. The next morning, there was an entire massacre and you still don't think to call 911? They didn't know the cops were killed. Everything about this was just done so lazy. Not worth the watch at all! I have seen some really bad horror films and I would say this was one of the worst.
Dead Shack (2017)
DONOVAN STINSON IS HILARIOUS!!!!
Roger makes this movie bearable. Without him, the acting is terrible. The writing is pretty amateur too. It makes me mad that these kids never run away from the house, they just walk. There are some other gaps obviously in the storyline but overall not terrible.
Aux yeux des vivants (2014)
Pretty good!
It took me a while to figure out which year this took place in. Good suspense. I guess police take forever in every country. There is still a little bit of unknown.
After Midnight (2019)
"Gorilla Fart!"
Go into watching this movie thinking it is a romance with a little bit of horror. If you go into this thinking it is a horror movie then you will not enjoy it. Acting was really good and the characters were relatable. The "monster" is kind of random but it adds some humor.
Seance (2021)
Started off good
I liked how the movie started off but the ending was super cliche. Also, the acting got more and more cheesy along the way. When Camille was tied up to the chair, I thought her legs were tied too. GURL, kick that mofo in the face!!! He is about to hammer a screw into your knee! You're not paralyzed!
Promising Young Woman (2020)
40's playing 30's
I thought this was a great movie. I just wish they didn't have actors that looked way too old to play a 30-year-old. An appearance of like half the B and C list actors out there. Adam Brody, Molly Shannon, so many more.
Vicious Fun (2020)
Funny and Unique
I wish there were more films like vicious fun. I would say it was pretty good overall. The acting is a little cheesy at times but that's expected from the theme being 1980's. Just a good 'ol fun movie! Gory yet humorous.
Midnight Mass (2021)
A different take on vampires
Slow at times. Too much dialogue, however the acting was very well done. I still don't understand why some people come back to life and others don't, I thought I did but then it stopped making sense when even people who took regular communion still did not wake up.
Beckett (2021)
Everything happens for a reason?
Good cinematography. It kind of felt like I was watching an action film from the 80's or 90's (maybe that was done on purpose). Felt long, probably could have been consolidated a little. Not super realistic but it was definitely thrilling.
The Beach House (2019)
Only watch if you don't mind being super confused
So random, no real plot, bad ending. The boyfriend is a complete douche and I don't know how the girl doesn't see what she is stepping into. Doesn't make sense.
Malignant (2021)
Just A LOT
I need to ponder on this film before making my review. HBO max sucks though! It kept skipping like an old CD, "HBO! Pull yourself together and be better"
Hell House LLC III: Lake of Fire (2019)
HELL HOUSE LLC. fan
The first hell house llc was really good. Actually quite frighteningly scary. All of these movies were decent but this one fell far from it. There were some jump scares but besides Harvey's character the acting was so bad. I liked the twists and turns but then I felt like I was watching a comedy. Is Russell supposed to be an angel or something? If he was then why was he such a dick! I have too many mixed emotions to just give it a high ranking or a low ranking, so I scored closer to the middle ;-)
Summer of 84 (2018)
Better than I thought it would be
At first I thought this movie was a little bit cheesy, especially with the high-fives and 80's music. But then I realized that the acting was pretty good and some of the lines these kids had were kind of funny. It kept annoying me that these kids didn't know how to spy! Everybody knows to turn your lights off in your room when you are spying on someone so they can't see you. My favorite character dies, which is unexpected, so that was sad. He was the best one out of all of them, and now the mom is all alone in her depression. It's not meant to be a horror film but it was definitely suspenseful.
Sweet Girl (2021)
Soooo cheesy!
It was an interesting twist but still didn't make much sense. The girl is just an angry serial killer that commits first degree mass murders, not sure who the "good guys" are. Did she have a personality disorder of some kind?
The script was sooo cheesy but the acting was good I guess. Why in gods name was there so much shooting and not one bystander comes out to check on what the commotion was during or after.
Last Shift (2014)
Genuinely Creepy
Super creepy, somewhat ok storyline. I would have been snapping pictures with my phone left and right.
Selvmordsturisten (2019)
5 for acting and pretty scenery
Boring...weird...slow...even weirder...at the end you ask yourself, wtf?!
Willy's Wonderland (2021)
Nic, honey, just retire
I know it is supposed to be stupid but it's just sooo stupid.
Monsters: Dark Continent (2014)
Um.... Where do I even begin????
First of all...what is this movie even about??? This is nothing like the first one. The first one had some humor and was lighthearted compared to this one. This is super dramatic. This is way more of a war movie and less about the aliens. I feel as if the title doesn't really fit the plot? On one hand it is interesting to see how the aliens are adapting to life on earth, and how they mass produce and evolve. And I even liked the idea of the soldiers having essentially 2 enemies and seeing their strategies of how to manage both at the same time. I think it would have been cool if the monsters killed some of the enemies but it seems like they just wanted to mind their own business. Probably one of the most intense war movies I have ever seen. The acting in the beginning was really bad and cheesy but you forget about it after the first quarter of the movie. I can see how soldiers come home with PTSD. How do you go back to civilization after that?!?! If you want to watch a movie with somewhat of a happy ending, then this isn't the movie for you. If you want to watch a movie with aliens, this also isn't the movie for you. I wouldn't even consider this a horror movie. Not terrible, worth the watch. I gave it a 6 because the acting got much better.
False Positive (2021)
Brilliant!!!!
I know there hasn't been many ratings yet so I am not going to get mad but I have no idea why this would be any lower than an 8. We couldn't tell if we were going crazy, if she was??, was she in some sort of simulation?...did Adrian seek her out for this experiment or did he actually fall in love and marry her?? I loved the artsy vibe this movie had and really great acting!
I Am All Girls (2021)
Started flat, ended ok
I wanted to like it. This movie fell completely flat. Maybe it was the acting, the flow, the music?....not sure.
