Stag Hunt (2015)
Not great, but not bad either
I admit, from the offset, that I love a good creature feature, and the fact that I grew up in the area where this was filmed, around Meldon Old Quarry and Reservoir, and northern Dartmoor, may have coloured my opinion.
The scenery is good and the cinematography is pretty good too, for an indie flick, and would put some larger budget films to shame.
The cast are not particularly likeable, especially one that is outright nasty, which tends to lead to you rooting for the Dartmoor Beast - which is a real legend around here, by the way. The banter between them is pretty funny at times, and adds comedy to the film.
The beast is too unseen in this movie, and it would have been better to have featured it more. I suspect that cost featured in this decision, but it could have been much scarier, whilst still being funny, along the lines of An American Werewolf in London.
Overall, I quite enjoyed it. It is not comedic gold, nor is it a horror masterpiece, but it is certainly worth a watch.
He Who Dares: Downing Street Siege (2014)
What the hell did I just watch??!!!
In common, I think, with everyone else this was, without a doubt, one of the worst movies I have ever seen.
The story-line was badly thought out and executed, its premise was ridiculous, the acting was horrendous, and the basic research required for a movie like this was non-existent!
You know that the film isn't going to do well when the main character is supposed to be an SAS Major. However, he wears the uniform of a different regiment, with corporal stripes, badly aligned medals and a uniform made for someone else! He also turns up for a disciplinary meeting clearly not having shaved for days! Utterly unbelievable. And this is the good bit!
The camera work looks like it was filmed by a couple of college students and the action scenes are laughably choreographed. Basic research has not been attempted on SAS, police or security techniques.
I could go on, but there is little point. The only message to take away is don't waste your time watching this movie!
