Doctor Who: Blink (2007)
Wow
At my age, I have been watching the Doctor avidly for 40 odd years and, like everyone have had favourite stories. They've all just been blown out of the water.
Moffatt had written probably the best episodes from the previous two series of the re-incarnated Doctor in "Girl In The Fireplace" and the scary "Empty Child", so I had great hopes of "Blink" when I saw he was the writer. I wasn't disappointed.
If you like science fiction, or even if you like traditional British horror, watch this brilliantly performed and written episode. And, oh yes, "Don't turn your back. Don't look away. And don't Blink".
Torchwood (2006)
Well Done to the Beeb
Wow! It's not often you get decent, intelligent and reasonably adult science fiction on TV. In fact, you could say it's almost never, but the BBC and, especially, Russell Davies have come up trumps this time.
The acting is good, the scripts and plots excellent and I, for one, am glad to see the arrival of the BBC's new baby.
John Barrowman plays the enigmatic Captain Jack in just the right way, Eve Myles is excellent and Burn Gorman is a little different from his character (Guppy) in Bleak House, to say the least.
We even get a good plot twist in Episode 1, but I'm not giving away any spoilers here!
