Poirot: Death on the Nile (2004)
Pure Class
Beautifully defined characters, stunning sets, and of course the superb David Suchet as Poirot.......a perfect combination. Leaves me wishing to book a trip to see the wonders of Ancient Egypt!.... With all the glamour surrounding the film of course!
Death on the Nile (2022)
More life in a game of Cluedo
All of the actors in this film were as stiff as characters on the Cluedo board. Non of the characters came to life. Everything was muted. KB was expressionless and on the verge of a nervous breakdown throughout. I really don't think this is what Agatha Christie had in mind when she wrote this.
Ford v Ferrari (2019)
A gripping moving fast ride
I'm not a racing fan, but this film kept my attention throughout. It was exceptionaly well filmed, atmospheric, and a moving account of what happened. Great acting.
Into the Woods (2014)
Sad to Say .......Snoozeville
I love musicals, I love fairy tales, but definitely did not like this film. It has an amazing cast, so I'm not sure how this film went so badly wrong, bit it did. It was snoozeville!!!!!
Elvis (2022)
Poignant and beautiful even if not totally accurate.
This is a stunning narrative of Elvis' life. The acting is superb, the way that the atmosphere builds in the film takes your breath away at moments. Some of the most moving parts are at the conclusion when footage of the real Elvis is shown, very moving indeed. After coming home, and looking up various sections from the film, I found out quite a lot of scenes are not accurate and built very loosely around fact.
But the film was excellent..... However nothing beats the real footage of the man himself.
No Time to Die (2021)
Dismal and Depressing..an end of Bond
Ok... I'm fresh back from the cinema, totally depressed and the first thing I want to do is watch 'The Spy who Loved me'. Of course the cinematography in this film is astounding. The vistas of Greece and Italy are jaw droppingly beautiful, as is the Aston Martin featured throughout... But that is it!!!
I think I just must be too old school to cope with:
1. A child in the opening film sequence
2. A woman 007
3. Money Penny and James Bond making a house call on Q
4. James Bond having a child.
At times it felt more like I was watching Platoon that James bond, with the huge machine guns in the forests scenes. If you are looking for sophistication, glamour and wit... It is not here.
James Bond bearing his soul to us. Please, I don't want to know the back story to my super heroes.... I want them all to be super.
I used to watch James Bond to be entertained.... This was completely dismal.
The film even had to steal music from Her Majesty's Secret service to add some class to it...I appreciate the irony of the song... It is great.. Not like this film.
I know Barbra B that you have too attract new audiences...but this is not Bond.
It' is the end of Bond for me....a sad goodbye.
The Singapore Grip (2020)
A Great Distraction
I thoughlly enjoyed all six episodes. Yes they may be a little comical, but in this Covid world I enjoyed that. I haven't read the book, so have nothing to compare it with. A fictious story written to the background of real very sobering events, with a lot of colonial hypocrital glamour...... A great atmospheric distraction.
Les Misérables (2018)
The BBC at its best. Fantastic acting!
Obviously this is going to be filled with many sad poignant moments, as the name suggests. However there are so many beautiful moments, and the acting (particularly in the last climatic episode) was splendid.
