Afflicted (2013)
Found footage done right!
This is a story of a guy who has AVM and now he wants to have a trip of his life. He brings his friend and they travel the world recording their journey.
I was surprised that this wasn't one of those shaky cam movies, this is actually like a documentary and one done with love. It was done on a small budget and for that it deserves praise, because it really brings a little mystery to the whole affliction scenario. It wasn't anything like zombies which I am proud of. It was acted pretty well the shots are pretty steady and the action scenes are done well. It was refreshing, but it's not without it's flaws. The explanation for how the affliction carried over is vague, other characters besides the two main ones are not that good. Especially the one female character near the end. I was waiting for that moment for a while and it turned out flat. Maybe it was intended that way I don't know. The after credit scene was unnecessary and it begs more questions than answers going back to the transmission of this affliction as they call it. It was more interesting than I thought and it changes some things, but it can confuse some people if you delve deep into it. Overall it was a good movie 7/10
Jeepers Creepers 3 (2017)
A giant disappointment!!! SPOILERS AHEAD
There will be spoilers but still it's not even worth watching this movie. After 14 years since the last movie, witch a lot of people thought was s$%t, I kind of liked it, it was far from good and far from the first one but still very enjoyable. But oh my god does this one crap all over it. What surprises me is that it's the original director who promised us a backstory and a final explanation for the Creeper. Yeah you won't get it. You'll be teased till the end and nothing will be explained. You'll get a cameo at the end and a pretty cheesy one and really cringe worthy. My god and the visuals the damn CGI, it looked far better in 2001. Just look at the gap 2001-2017. Imagine that let it sink in. And they ruined the main antagonist by giving him a new stylish red shirt...what? I can get past that if he was frightening here or at least intimidating, but I didn't flinch. Use of pointless CGI, where you can use practical effects is just laughable. I mean if it was good CGI i can get over it but this looks like TV series quality. Some TV shows have much better visual effects...actually a lot of them. The acting...just...some is good but...just I can't even. And get the best part...the story takes place between the first two movies. Am not joking. What a twist -_-... Some shots are just plain good, nothing more, just average and music is also that average but with everything else and the lies about what we were gonna get it can't go higher then 1/10. It doesn't deserve a higher score, just a shame.
Hacksaw Ridge (2016)
A True Hero...
In the midst of World War 2 young man, Desmond Doss (Andrew Garfield) is prepared to give his all for his men, without touching a gun.
This movie surprised me, it was a breath of fresh air. Going in this movie you must understand that it's brutal and savage, it depicts war at it's fullest and not just the physical pain but emotional too. We follow Desmond a real life war hero who follow the commandment "Thou shalt not kill". We see him struggle to get a girl and finally to be one of the brave warriors who will fight at Hacksaw Ridge. He undergoes brutal training and even becoming and outcast among his fellow soldiers. The scenes depicted here are hearth-breaking and hard to watch. The movie is excellently shot, with great visual effects and beautiful angles. Cinematography was breath taking and the acting was phenomenal. Andrew Garfield surprised me greatly, he brought so much power to this character and I must say I liked him better here then in Silence. Mel Gibson gives so much to this movie, he let's these actors express themselves, the emotion is dripping from the movie. Hugo Weaving...I have not seen him in a long time and he left me speechless, I was taken in this so much. Teresa Palmer was also really good, maybe one of the best performances of her carrier. The war itself is almost horror like, the way it's shot and depicted is scary. You can feel the tension in every scene, I was on edge the whole movie. This is one of the best films last year, if you haven't watched it go and give it a try, If you like war movies or drama movies in general you will love this one.
Visions (2015)
An interesting take, but nothing completely new...
After a pregnant woman moves in her new house with her loving husband, she starts seeing strange visions.
The movie starts up interesting, the character themselves are pretty well done. Though I was more interested by some side characters then our main protagonist. That's where the movie loses me a bit, though the actors do a great job, they don't have a lot to work with, some simple things are thrown in there to squish everything up, so we can care for these people. But at the end it just doesn't work very well. The movie tries to do something clever, though I didn't see the ending coming, it might be just because it was a little boring and hard to pay attention to. I can see a number of times the director tried to build atmosphere and tension, but it quickly falls apart by the numerous jump-scares it has littered about. There was so many times in the movie where I jumped just because of a loud noise and that is a problem. Some things are not explained in the ending which I can't get into without spoiling so I won't talk about it, but beside that we also have a very, very uninteresting ending of all. I wasn't afraid for the woman or her husband, I was more interested about the past it sets up with this house but never delivers. Sound: Nothing special for a horror movie Directing: It has some good shots, though it doesn't play with our mind quite as well as I hoped it would because of these visions. Story: The story is lackluster, had potential, but ultimately failed.
Overall this is an average movie at best: 5/10
