Patrick (2018)
Over-the-top feel good movie
This was silly and ridiculous at times, but was overall a funny pick-me-up film. If you're looking for something light, positive, and family-friendly this would be a great choice.
Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
Enjoyable & over-hyped
I had fun watching this fast-paced movie, but I was underwhelmed due to my high expectations. In the years since its release, this movie has been prominent in pop culture. This led me to assume that there was something great about this movie. After watching it, I can report that I'm glad I watched it, I probably won't be watching it a second time, and I don't see what all the fuss was about.
Batman & Robin (1997)
Cheesy Batman movie
After watching this movie, I was surprised to see how low its overall IMDb rating is. Despite its cheesiness, I enjoyed watching it while I was working on a monotonous task. That said, I certainly won't be watching it a second time and I wouldn't recommend buying it unless you're a huge Batman fan.
Instant Family (2018)
Pleasantly surprised by this "family film"
Over the past few years I have avoided most new and recent movies, but I'm really glad I watched this one. This movie is a mix between a comedy and a family drama about foster care. I felt that the film generally balanced these two elements well.
Although many reviews label this a family movie, I think that label is debatable. It is a family film in the sense that you wouldn't avoid watching it with your parents or grandparents. At the same time, I wouldn't watch it with kids under the age of 10 due to some crude content and references to drugs.
Dynasty (2017)
Boring but watchable
This TV show is filled with glamour and drama, yet failed to catch my interest. I watched the first four or five episodes before I decided that this wasn't worth my time. The main problem with this show is that most of the characters are exchangeable - they're successful, rich, selfish, shallow, and unhappy. Since all of the main characters are so similar to each other and unlikable, I was indifferent to the conflicts between them. The two characters I found interesting - the butler and Claudia - don't appear often enough for me to stick with the series.
Océans (2008)
Not what I expected
Before I watched this film, I assumed that it would be similar to a nature show on BBC or the Discovery Channel. Indeed, much of the film looks like it belongs in a standard nature documentary. However, the narration is unlike anything I've ever encountered in a nature documentary before. It's more "artsy" than scientific. For me, the impressive shots of ocean animals that fill the film were ruined by vacuous narration.
If you want beautiful imagery accompanied by narration that describes how gorgeous what you're seeing is, this film is for you. If you want to see a documentary about ocean wildlife, look elsewhere.
