Rush Hour (2016)
Deserves more than just 1 season
Honestly, I was very sceptical when I heard that they were doing a Rush Hour TV show. I was so determine not to watch it because, really, the movies were a classic and no way can the TV show be a successful hit. I was right when I read that it was cancelled after the first season.
But then, I kept seeing interviews for it and both the actors seemed very charismatic and likable, so I got my hands on the series and gave it a go. I surprised myself when I heard myself genuinely laughing. And as the show went on, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Sure, Justin Hires is no Chris Tucker nor is Jon Foo Jackie Chan. But hey, they are not meant to be. One is a loud mouth detective and one is a detective from Hong Kong--hence the show is called Rush Hour for that reason--but with their own quirks and personalities, and of course, their own stories.
The show does have action, it does have comedy; and chemistry, they are definitely getting there. If it was given a chance at a second season or third, perhaps we could see a Sherlock and Watson kind of of bond...or Joey and Chandler...or Walter and Jesse. And by then if it's still not a hit, it's never too late to cancel.
I'm not saying that everyone should like it, as it's each to their own. I'm just saying it deserves more than just 1 season.
While You Were Sleeping (1995)
Not only am I in love with Jack Callaghan...
but I am in love with the movie.
I'm kicking myself for watching this movie just recently. I was quite young when this movie was first released but that is not an excuse for overseeing this movie for so long. I am so glad I watched it. And I'm going to keep watching it over and over...
I am a sucker for romantic comedies and a lot of them are disappointing. It's very rare to fall in love with a movie, and 'while you were sleeping' has that effect on me.
The key to the Lucy and Jack's romance is chemistry, and boy did they have chemistry.
The element to a great story, whether it is reading or watching is to show not tell. And that's what exactly what it was. The looks that you see Jack and Lucy give each other, their body language, the deep conversations they have, the way he describes her, and how she's head over heels for him. The tension they create when put together wasn't anything sexual; it was something much, much deeper. Something that will last a lifetime.
The other key factors to this movie are the Callaghans and Saul, and everyone else. They bring out the comedy side to the movie. They are a hilarious bunch, and are not a tad annoying, not even the real fiancée or Peter; just really, really funny and fun to be with.
Put two and two together, and they have formulated an almost perfect Romantic Comedy. (I am going to say almost, because nothing in this world is perfect)
Now Bill Pullman—that's a different topic!
Leap Year (2010)
A very delightful movie...
Ever since seeing the trailer for this movie I really wanted to see it; because one, Amy Adams and two, Matthew Goode. I was disappointed that it wasn't released in the Australian cinemas. And normally when I have high hopes for a movie, it doesn't turn out quite as good, especially when it comes to Romantic Comedies, but "especially" when the trailer gives out too much of the movie. So I didn't expect much, but still really want to see this movie.
I got hold of this movie thanks to a friend of mine, and judging by the ratings, I think it's obvious. I know it's a cliché, where the two main characters couldn't stand each other at first and then fell in love towards the middle of the movie. But then again, opposites attracts...
I know a lot of people won't agree with how the movie portrays the situation. But I've overlooked that; maybe because there were chemistry between the two characters. Both Adams and Goode are attractive people and they really looked good together. And after all it is a Romantic Comedy, and Anna and Declan are expected to end up with other, or there was no point in making this movie.
The romance and comedy are both there with not too much falling on to just one side of the genre, which i find a lot of in Romantic Comedy these days.
There are laughable moments, memorable quotes and maybe one heartbreaking scene (Some probably won't even call it heartbreaking).
Give it a go!
Rio (2011)
Too over the top and not at all a bit funny.
I went to see this with my friend tonight and was quite disappointed. To be honest I didn't expect much from this movie but when I saw the ratings on this board before going to see it, I had a change of heart. I went in thinking this movie might be worth the 7.4 given but as you can see I've only given it 2 stars.
The movie was cute but the script was over done. I think they were trying to make this movie funny but it came out very annoying.
The animation and the colours were great no doubt, but the story and the the scripting were very poor!
DON'T GO SEE IT UNLESS YOUR KIDS ARE BELOW 6 AND THEY REALLY WANTS TO GO because there are no other kids movies out at the moment; but even they might find it bad if they have good taste.
