Promising but disappointing
9 August 2021
It's promising, because it has everything to be a great film. The story's promise is great, the actors are great, there is tension at the beginning. But it's then overall dull, and the story gets boring, in a way, you just don't care of what's going on, and that's a shame, as it could have been much better. For instance, there is a twist but you just don't care.

And the movie takes place in LA but doesn't have the mood, that Training Day or LA Confidential have. Vibes could have been better, as well. It's still entertaining.

Entertaining, but don't expect more
9 August 2021
An entertaining film, funny, with a great cast. The actors keep it great. It's not boring, and this is a huge success, for this type of film. It's overall well-made. But of course, this film has nothing unexpected and surprising (except maybe the Mission Impossible famous music), still you have a good time.

Divertimento (2020)

Crazy and massive
8 August 2021
It doesn't feel like an indie movie, yet it's indie. It doesn't have all the tropes of a blockbuster, yet it feels like a blockbuster. It's not a short film, but not a feature either. Well, it's 'Divertimento' and it's crazy and massive and you should watch it, 'cause there is something here... very special.

Loved how the story is intellectual, and makes the moviegoer clearly work, and think, to bring it all together. Filled with plot twists and turns, it takes you on a psychological roller coaster ride from start to finish. Several questions are raised throughout and you think you know what's happening, what's true or false, until the end, which gives an answer to all the questions and is totally unexpected. But the movie is also pure entertainment, with a beautiful location, a mysterious mood and a brilliant cast. Not to forget the tension and the action, very creative.

A surprising film which doesn't let you indifferent. What you feel at the end is that this film is special, probably a masterpiece.

A throwback to the great thriller
13 July 2017
« Vesper » is a kind of experiment which pulls you in and never lets go, not even at the end with unexpected twists. What the director did in 23 minutes is just incredible. There is a huge work to establish a mysterious, strange and an oppressive atmosphere which is actually the key of the movie. Like the characters, we are shut away in a haunted house, from the beginning there's an eerie and we understand characters are hiding secrets from each other.

The storyline is great, the short film has an original concept and Götz Otto's Walter character is incredible! Ambiguous, dreadful, threatening, as devilish as emotional, he's a very complex character, both in the darkness and in the light. Marge is less interesting, but when masks come off, she becomes a very deep character with a lot of psychology… The performances are phenomenal.

Thanks to the evocative cinematography, the mysterious atmosphere, the unsettling score and an excellent direction (camera work, sound…), the building of suspense and mystery is engrossing. During 23 minutes, it's like you're somewhere else… the end is so thrilling...

The movie reminds us Amenabar's « The Others », also some Hitchcock, Lynch, Fincher, De Palma movies… very nostalgic of that time… it's a throwback to the great thriller !

Engrossing, enjoyable short film !
