The Ninth Passenger (2018)
Started but not finished
I will start off by saying that I could only manage 24 mins of this movie before I had to switch it off. The acting was so bad it was likening it to them rehearsing their lines the night before. Plastic! There was no mystery in the plot that would encourage me to view beyond this time-frame. Jesse Metcalf was probably the only one with some acting experience and I do wonder what made him work on this movie. A friend in need of a favour or contract clause he couldn't break.
Take Two (2018)
In the wake of Castle...
So if you loved Castle, you have probably been searching for a replacement show to ease your pain. Well this one will not. There are a few shows on the air at the moment which have a very similar premises . How do you turn an actor or writer into a crime solving duo? Just partner them up with a police or PI.
For my bet, Private Eye is the best of these types of shows out there as the character of Jason Priestly has obtained his PI licence and is willing to learn the ropes from a professional. Yes Carter and Take Two are so similar in that both actors are annoying, they never listen to the professionals, always think they know better and all because they learnt lines in TV shows about being a cop! POLIZE!
Yellowstone (2018)
If you build it .....
First off the bat, I love Kevin Costner and love his work. I appreciate his style of acting in that he so comfortable in every role that he is the character. However! I found it hard to watch the first episode (still have 15 mins to go) as it was clear that the 1 1/2 hours was going to be spent in setting up the plot for future episodes. So I'm now bored. I found the whole narrative of this show boring in that I could have used it as back ground noise and still told you what was going on. Looking at the creators of this show, one of them is the writer of the movie Wind River and it certainly has the same feel about it. Slow, so slow, but enjoyable. So it clear that this show is 3 facet story thread. America's past, farming, America's history, the prosecution of the Indians, and Americas present future, commercialism in the wake of Past & History.
One Strange Rock (2018)
One Out of this World Doco
This is truly one of the most amazing documentary about who we are in the great expanse is that is our Universe. Kudos to the astronauts for their amazing narrative about their time in space and their new found relationship with One Strange Rock.
What a breathe of fresh air to have such a welcoming narrator complete the story line. The child like wonderment that Will Smith brings to this documentary is a testament to all involved in the production of this show.
This show is both informative and engaging and a very emotional roller-coaster of information.
Modern Family (2009)
Laughter potion for all types
Family is what you make of it and have the guts to laugh at everyone's imperfections. I thought I would never be able to laugh out loud again after Friends ended but thanks to MF, I am doing this all over again.
Just when you think one family is funnier than the other, bang! Surprise laughs!
The writers of this show have to be commended for their on-going smart family dynamics and how there is a funny side to everything.
This show and "Fresh of the Boat" are my favourite comedies on air at the moment.
Seven Seconds (2018)
Anthology is not for everyone
This show centers on one story line projected from various views depending on who's demographic you belong to. I have to say I love these types of shows if for no other reason than it is not typical Hollywood happy ending. So you may not be happy with the justice in this show but then that is life. It's not fair.
This show has some really outstanding acting by all involved so it's hard to point out anyone in particular as it would not be fair. Strong performances all round.
The story centers on the life a of young black boy who is accidentally hit by a policeman on an icy road and then the many lives this act will destroy. For me the 7 seconds is in the act of how the accident came to happen and then how those 7 seconds spiraled into the thread of those who are touched by this act.
Somewhere Between (2017)
Somewhere in-between hating and loving this
This show has the 3 of the 5 things I love about shows.
Mystery, supernatural touches and a plot that could be expended for years to come. Saying that, it has 2 things that I just can't overlook.
Overacting and the most annoying child actor that I feel compelled to send to the naughty corner every time she opens her mouth.
So the premise is that the main character gets given a second chance (for now cause I'm not sure how many times this will happen) to relive a ground hog day 8 days in her past to attempt to save her child. In the mist of this, the one person her saves her is also caught in this loop. So the story has real merits.
I do find it hard to watch this show due to the overacting of Paula Patton and the annoyance of the character played by Aria Birch. Sorry but it seems that if these two actors where swapped out (Oh no! Not back to the Future again!), the show could stand a chance.
So if this gets cancelled won't be surprised, if this show survives I won't be surprised either.
So I am somewhere in between liking and not liking this show.
The Mummy (2017)
The Mummy should have been left buried....
It was hard to understand if this film is about the mythical mummy or a vehicle to showcase Tom Cruise's comedic abilities. Unfortunately neither came to fruition.
Having been a huge fan of the Brendan Fraser / Rachel Weisz versions and their chemistry on screen I had hoped that they would have been able to at least achieve this between the two leading characters. It felt so forced throughout the whole film that at times it was painful to watch.
The special effects at times (the mummies bandages) are a bit laughable and what a waste of Russell Crowe's talents. It felt that Russell character was being restrained to not overshadow TC! Why?
If you have not watched any of the previous Mummy films you may get some enjoyment out of this version though I don't hold out much hope. With so much money spent on this film it's hard at times to see where it was spent.
Sorry but very disappointed with this version and it ranks up there with the poorly executed The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008).
Walk of Fame (2017)
Where is the Laughter?
So a guy who has failed the bar exam twice is working in a call centre who happens on a girl who has just been groped and then is harassed by the police should sound like the beginnings a of a set of chain of events that would have you rolling on the floor with laughter! Well I'm still wondering why this movie was made as it is so bad and I didn't laugh once. The story line feels like many of it's sketches were pulled from other movies of the 80's (Police Academy to name one) but failed to deliver any punches.
Having seen Scott Eastwood in a few other films I had hoped this would be a good addition to his repertoire but alas, it feels like it was a job only for the money. Let's hope he was paid decent for this lack luster attempt at film making.
